93 Years
Downingtown

A life long resident of Chester County, Gussie was born in Coatesville PA to the late Isaac and Leah Robinson, third oldest of 10 children. At age 9 she and her family moved to  Corner Ketch, Downingtown where she met the love of her life. Gussie married her childhood sweetheart Cliff Irons after WWII spending 72 happy, wonderful years together. Cliff and Gussie enjoyed many activities including square dancing, camping, and traveling, eventually visiting all 50 states.

Gussie was always proud of the fact that she was fortunate enough to be in the final graduating class of Gutheriesville High School 10th grade in 1942 and was able to attend the Downingtown Senior High School for 11th and 12th grade thus earning her two high school diplomas.

Gussie had a long and varied career. Her employment included Sarah Coventry fashion show director (recognized for high sales, recruits, and bookings for the entire east coast of the United States) production superintendent secretary at Downingtown Mfg. Co., school bus driver, a store clerk at Bryant's Grocery in Gutheriesville, cake baker for Gutheriesville Luncheonette, executive secretary at Pepperidge Farms to plant engineering retiring in 1985.  She then worked for Bill Pusey Contracting for 2 years and then spent 22 years as Personal Assistant to Jim Wagner at Remax Action Associates in Exton, finally retiring for good in 2007. During these times, Gussie and Cliff purchased several rental properties, designed, built, owned and operated the Village Square facility in Gutheriesville. Gussie also devoted over 34 years, from 1966-2000, as secretary-treasurer for the veterans of the U.S. Navy 7th Construction Battalion keeping nearly 500 Seabees in touch by the twice-yearly newsletter she edited and published.

In 2007 Gussie and Cliff moved from the home they had built on Pumpkin Hill in Glenmoore to Simpson Meadows, Downingtown.  As her norm, Gussie became involved in several activities in the Simpson Meadows community including various prayer groups.

Gussie was an avid knitter and taught knitting to many others so they could enjoy the craft as well. As a member of the knitting guild, she knitted hats and mittens one year for the White House Christmas tree.  She received a picture of that tree, her work hanging on it, with President and Mrs. Clinton standing next to it.

Gussie lost her beloved Cliff in December 2018. She is survived by her 2 children, clinical psychologist Dr. Kathryn Lindenfeld of Bloomsburg, Pa, and TSgt Raymond Irons, USAF, Retired, and his wife Sharrill of Quincy, Ca, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her older brother Norman (Loretta) Robinson, younger brother Carl Robinson, youngers sisters Sally Sisk and Alice (John) Myers as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Simpson Meadows on Oct 12, 2019, at 1 PM, internment to be held privately at Hopewell Cemetery.

Topper & Kathy i knew both your father and mother so well.  Your Mother was always a blessing to me each morning she would come to the Main Lobby here at Simpson Meadows and she would always say to me "Good Morning Sunshine" she always made my day.  She is missed terribly and your Father he always like to torment me and joke with me he also made my day.  I knew your family so well because my Grandfather's farm (Dilworth) backed right up against the Irons farm.  And Raymond Irons and Morris Dilworth were the original famers of East Brandywine township so there are a lot of ties  that go way back.   My deepest sympathy to you and you are in my prayers and it you need anything do not hestiate to contact me

Sincerely

our deepest condolences, I knew Cliff and Gussie a long time, my parents would go square dancing with them many many times. I would share my knitting patterns and she would give me new ones. But Cliff and Gussie were some of our wonderful, faithful customers at Country Gardens. I would always go and sit with them and talk. It was nice to have known them.

Guessie was a precious lady.   All who knew her, loved her.  She had a heart of gold!!   I got to know her when we both attended TOPS at the Good Shepard Lutheran church in Coatesville.   She very seldom missed a meeting on Monday nights.  She was an encourager for sure.   I just saw Gussie two weeks ago as I came out of the doctors office, she was being escorted in on the arm of a friend.   She said "HELLO THERE".   We both realized who the other; we stopped and hugged.   It was so wonderful to see her again.     I am not surprised at the AMAZING WONDERFUL life she has had.   She was busy for the Lord every single day.

I know Gussie will be missed.   I loved her too.

To the Family:    Just read the beautiful obit. on Gussie Irons.  What a magnicient lady.   We knew Cliff and Gussie through square dancing.   Didn't realize that she was so involved in other things, as well.   They were so busy in promoting square dancing, and as new dancers we just loved going to dances at Village Square.   Cliff and Gussie were always so welcoming to us, and would dance with us as often as possible.   Many people loved this couple in the square dancing world, as well as your local community.  Great memories!

I met Gussie in TOPS and she was a wonderful friend & provided encouragement to all of the members in our club.  She rarely had a bad day and was such a joy to be with. There were times that I provided taxi service for Gussie and we would talk about everything under the sun during those trips.  My sympathies to her family as I know they will miss her so much.  On the bright side; she & Cliff are together again!

Kathy and Top,

Ralph and I knew Gussie from Square Dancing at Village Square and then purchesed the home she and Cliff built on Pumpkin Hill Road.  Gussie was a wonderful and uplifting person and she will be greatly missed. She brought a ray of sunshine where ever she went. We send you our deepest sympathies.  We are keeping you and your families in thought and prayer.

I’ve known and worked with Gussie at RE/MAX for almost 30 years.  She was was a wonderful, beautiful soul and we will all miss her very much!!  She was so full of life and spunk!  Always had a smile on her face and a joke or story to tell!  She will always be remembered and loved by her RE/MAX family!!  Love you, Gussie!

I was a neighbor of Gussie.  In June she asked me to take over the Bon Appetit group she did for years.  Of course she handed me the most organized files and  apologized  her compiuter was  not working so I had to redo the forms.  She went to the first luncheon we had in August and signed up for one we had last week.   She will be remembered and missed.
