Obituary

Edwin F. Groce, born on May 6, 1941, in Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Downingtown, PA. Edwin's life was marked by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.

A 1959 honors graduate of S. Horace Scott High School, Ed continually pursued knowledge and self-improvement. He attended Villanova University, Delaware Community College, and Montgomery Community College, earning a diploma in Electrical Drafting from LaSalle alongside various other technical training certificates. Edwin's diligence in academics set the foundation for a long and distinguished career in electrical and industrial work.

He began his working life as a bagger and checker at A&P Grocery during high school. Shortly after, Edwin answered the call to serve his country, joining the Navy as a Second Class Interior Communication Electrician from July 4, 1959, to June 1963. He was honorably discharged after four years of military service, an experience he carried with pride throughout his life.

Upon returning home, Ed embarked on a remarkable professional journey, highlighted by roles at Graphic Packing Company (formerly Ludlow Corp and Continental Can Company) in Paoli, PA. There, he served as a first-class Industrial Electrician for six years, Plant Engineer for fifteen years, and Environmental & Safety Director for four years. In addition, he worked as an electrician at Milprint in Downingtown, PA, for two years and as a supervisor at Allen Envelope Company of Berwyn, PA, for two and a half years. Edwin also shared his expertise by teaching industrial electrical work for a year at Scott Intermediate School. He concluded his fulfilling career by serving as an Electrical Maintenance person at Eastern University in St. David’s, retiring after eight years of valued service.

In civic and fraternal life, Ed held leadership positions that reflected his commitment to helping others. He served as President of the 1970 Coatesville Area Jaycees and became Master of Coatesville Lodge #564 in 1974.

Family was always at the heart of Edwin’s life. He was the beloved son of the late Townsend "Tiny" F. Groce and Mildred E. Walker of Coatesville, PA. Edwin is predeceased by his beautiful and beloved wife Leslie and his sisters Shirley Killinger and Patricia (William) McKee.
