Alice Joy Sherman, 88, of Ephrata, formerly of Ronks, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 27, 2026 at the Fairmount Nursing Home. She was the wife of Paul R. Sherman, Jr. who died in 2017. They shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Parkesburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. Fisher, Sr. and Dorothy B. Mullen Fisher.
Joy grew up in Parkesburg and was a 1956 graduate of the former Parkesburg High School. She enjoyed a good cheesesteak sandwich and milkshake served at her luncheonette in White Horse PA. .
Throughout her life Joy had a special place in her heart for children, and enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher and helping with vacation bible school over many years. She also volunteered as a Scout leader with both boys and girls.
She loved watching birds, square dancing, camping and tending her flower gardens especially the rose bushes planted by her husband.
She loved spending time with her family. Family reunions and cooking large holiday and birthday dinners were her happiest days!
She is survived by two children; Jeffrey L. Sherman and wife Cindy of East Earl, PA and Sandra L. Leslie and husband Shawn of Manheim, PA, 8 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and two siblings; Robert Fisher of Gap, PA and Betty Jane Probst of Florida. She was preceded in death by one son Richard L. Sherman and three brothers; Harry L. Fisher, Jr., William S. Fisher and Ralph Fisher.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 7, 2026 at 11 AM at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 549 Swan Rd, Atglen, PA 19310 with visitation from 10 until 11 AM followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
