Janell Ilene Franklin

Janell Ilene "Nellie" Franklin slipped away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of August 3rd at Newport Meadows Nursing Home in Christiana, PA, after a long and fierce battle with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and its aftermath. She was 58, born in Lancaster, PA, on July 7, 1968, to William L. Franklin (1938-2003) and Ilene L. (Holler) Franklin (1937-2016). 

Janell was a happy-go-lucky lover of life who graduated from Octorara Area High School in 1986 and studied nursing at Harcum Junior College in Bryn Mawr, PA, eventually earning her CNA license. After formal schooling, Janell served as a certified nursing assistant at Conestoga View in Lancaster, Harrison House in Christiana, and in private practice. Later in her career, Janell transitioned to a Certified Massage Therapist (from the Baltimore School of Massage), having enthusiastically served hundreds of clients -- many of them at East Earl Chiropractic and Body & Soul -- until nearly a decade of cancer treatments left her physically unable to continue.

Janell's other passion in life was spending time over the years with her family, including her nephew Jake Bashore of Berlin, MD, her niece Hannah Bashore of Parkesburg (who affectionately dubbed Janell as "Aunt Ewe"), and more recently Hannah's sons Chase and Jackson Wilson. She also kept close tabs on her niece, Marina Kyte Grant of Charlotte, NC, and Marina's daughter Daphne; her "stepsons" Carlos, Jonathan, and Justin Ortiz originally of Lancaster; and the son of her late BFF Trish Groff, Jaydon of Lancaster. She also enjoyed staying in touch with her many friends via text and online posting. Nellie loved playing Phase 10 with her sister Kelly's family every holiday and was a rabid fan of both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Janell is survived in addition to family members named above by her two sisters, Kelly Franklin Bashore of Parkesburg and Dawn Lynn (Franklin) Kyte of Bradenton, FL; Kelly's husband, Dave Bashore; an aunt, and many cousins in the Franklin and Jackson family trees. She was predeceased by Dawn's husband, Ollie Kyte.

A Memorial Service will be held graveside at Glen Run Cemetery, 641 Lantz Road, Atglen, PA, 19310 on Friday, August 14, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at a location to be announced at the memorial. Funeral services are being coordinated by Wilde Funeral Home in Parkesburg. 

In lieu of flowers or other expressions of love, Janell's family asks that friends and family kindly consider a contribution in her name to either the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute in care of the Lancaster General Health Foundation, the American Cancer Society or a charity that you hold near and dear to your heart.
