Lois Thomson Laffey, 84, of Cochranville, passed away on Friday, September 27th, 2019 at her home, under the care of her beloved family. Lois was the wife of Norman G. Laffey, Sr., with whom she shared 66 years, three months and seven days of marriage.
Born in West Chester, Lois was the daughter of the late Clara Hannum Charsha and Lewis Thomson. She was a 1953 graduate of Henderson High School. A resident of 2391 Glenville Road for 66 years, Lois was both a homemaker for her family and a bookkeeper for Glenville Farms. She treasured her family and time spent with them.
She was a member of the Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church. Lois was part of the Cochranville Golden Agers, the Farm Women, a Sr. Chorus member, and a 4-H Leader for many years. Lois enjoyed life to the fullest and loved being a wife, mother and grandmother, and friend to all those close to her.
Lois is survived, in addition to her husband, by six children: Norman G. Laffey, Jr., husband of Sue, of Cochranville, Karen L. Kauffman, wife of David, of Cochranville, Michael E. Laffey, husband of Kim, of Cochranville, George J. Laffey of Cochranville, Lisa A. Hershey, wife of Brent, of Mount Joy, and Andrew I. Laffey, husband of Debbie, of Cochranville; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and two half-brothers, Robert A. Charsha of Iowa and Dennis Thomson of Douglasville, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 4th at 11:00 AM at Saint Malachi Church, 76 St Malachi Rd, Cochranville, PA 19330 followed by a private interment in the adjoining cemetery. A viewing will take place at the Church from 9 until 11 AM.

I send my sympathies to the whole family. LIsa was such a good friend to me growing up and I spent many dayswith her playing on the farm. Mrs. Laffey was always so nice and good to me. She handled so many things being a wife to one of our farmer's and a mother to her family and all the while smiling. My prayers are with each of you.

Lois was alway such a kind lady and had a smile for everyone. She loved her family and will be missed by many Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Laffey family.

Great Memories!
So sorry to hear of Lois’s passing, and my condolences to the family, as this is a great loss of a wonderful matriarch! I have such fond memories of vacationing with Lois Lisa, Mike, George, and Andrew in Ocean City, NJ. Lois and my Mother (Bonnie) were such good friends. I’m sure they are catching up now! Remember spending hours at the farm, watching them milk and take care of the cows, and playing in the barn full of hay - what a blast, but don’t tell Norman! What a great lady! I’m sitting here thinking about the first time I went ice skating, and Lois found me a pair of ice skate’s as she thought I was good enough to skate as running a sliding for 10 feet had gotten too easy. Spent hours as a child in the house as mom would make frequent visits. Thanks for all the great memories - enough to last a lifetime, and see you on the other side! Love, Mark Czarnota
I attended the YMCA arthritis
I attended the YMCA arthritis class. I often saw Lois and her daughter (?) at the pool . Lois was always pleasant and seemed to enjoy the exercise class. Condolences to the Laffey family.
Lois and Norman Laffey were
Lois and Norman Laffey were second parents to me. My mother, Bonnie Czarnota and Lois were dear friends for decades until my Mom’s passing in 2004. My mother worked full time as a nurse. I loved her dearly, but she didn’t seem to have the time that Lois was able to give me. Lois taught me to sew through 4H. I have so many memories, I can’t begin to relay them all. Her house was always immaculate! Her life was her family!!!! She was a dynamo, as are her daughters, Lisa and Karen. Lois somehow packed in 14 hours a day what most people do in 1. Her chocolate chip cookies were the best!!! Mine always turned out like pancakes (I think she had a secret she wasn’t sharing). Her homemade pizza was terrific. She would be up at 5:00 in the morning washing the floor and then preparing breakfast for hired hands for the farm. She handled much of the finances of the farm and also tried her hand at milking. Then there was mowing and weeding and laundry for a family of 8!! I loved her like my own mother.
Her heart was full of nothing but kindness, love and generosity. Her laugh was endearing. Her life was full of love!!! I need to believe her spirit is with my Mom, and if there’s a craft fair on the other side, I guarantee they are there!!

Childhood memories
My sincere condolences to the Laffey family. As well as others, I share many years of childhood memories attending 4H meetings, sewing, baking, and playing around the farm. Growing up on the Glenville Road was a feeling of community and shared lives. Boy, that school bus would fly down and around the hill at the Laffey farm...wahoo!!!! My life was greatly enriched by Lois's dedication to her home, family and community. She will always be a significant part of my youth and in my heart of gratitude.
