Ronald Parker Hoskins, Sr., 70, of Parkesburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, under the care of Reading Hospital while surrounded by loved ones.  Born March 13th, 1950, and raised in Coatesville, Pa, he was the son of the late Robert "Bud" Hoskins and wife Mary Patricia Hoskins (Myers).

Ronnie was employed for many years with the Paralyzed Veterans of America serving as first President and lastly National Director for the Colonial Chapter.  In his youth, he attended C.A.S.H., served in Vietnam for the Army, and earned a degree in Mechanical Drafting & Design from Hygram G. Andrews.

He is survived by a large family.  His son Ronald Hoskins, Jr. with ex-wife Marqueite Shank has given him four grandsons and one step-granddaughter.  His surviving siblings and their spouses are Robert Hoskins and wife Iris, Richard Hoskins, Randee Hoskins, and wife Donna and Bonnie Hoskins.  He is proceeded by brother Rusti Hoskins and baby sister Patty Ann.

Ronnie had a life full of new experiences and travel.  He had many hobbies which include deep-sea fishing, hunting, and skeet shooting competitions.  He played both tennis and basketball.  Being paralyzed on December 24, 1976, did nothing to slow him down.  This adventurous spirit will be missed by many.

Ronnie is being cremated and his ashes will be spread on Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Berks County, Pa as he wished.  In light of Covid-19, a memorial will be held at a later date with details and invitations to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg.  Online condolences can be posted at www.wildefuneralhome.com

Ron lived on the same floor of our apartment building that I do. Although I knew he was a veteran from his hat and various pins, I was unaware of his deep involvement with Paralyzed Veterans of America until I learned he had passed.

What distinguished him here, when I saw him, was his unwavering good cheer, and that he liked my little companion dog -- in a building where many residents can be indifferent, or grumpy, or express their distaste for dogs. I learned to get out of the way when he revved up his hotrod wheelchair that could zoom down the extended hallways here in a matter of mere seconds.

Did I know him well?  No, and I’ve been here for three years, that's often how it is with apartment life. I’m never sure how appropriate it is to ask someone about their injuries or their earlier life.  I did not know what rank he held in the Army, and rather than ask I just started calling him Capt’n Ron (inspired by Lt. Dan in a certain movie) as that seemed to fit. He didn’t appear to mind.

Men of good cheer and character are hard to find these days. I will miss him.  Godspeed, Ron.
