David L. Herr, 89, of Parkesburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Lancaster, PA. He was the husband of the late M. Jane Myers Herr who passed away in 1993. Born in Highland Township, PA, on the family farm, he was the son of the late Jacob S. and Helen Coates Herr.
David was an area resident all his life and a 1953 graduate of West Fallowfield High School in Cochranville. He worked as a postal carrier for 30 years in Parkesburg along with operating the farm also. He was a member of the Penningtonville United Presbyterian Church in Atglen, PA where he served as a trustee and as president of the cemetery board. Recently, he received recognition for being the oldest and longest living member of Penningtonville Presbyterian Church with 75 years of membership. He worked on the zoning board of Highland Township. He was a member of the Parkesburg Lions Club where he served as Financial Secretary for over 20 years. He was also very proud to be a direct descendant of the Rev. Hans Herr who bulit and lived in one of the oldest existing homes in Lancaster County; the Hans Herr House.
He worked on behalf of the Agricultural Farmlands Preservation Board by Signing up local farm owners to preserve farmland from commercial development. He served as a director of the Chester/Delaware County Farm Bureau. Which included lobbying government officials in both Harrisburg and Washington DC on the farmer's behalf.
He is survived by his daughters, Anne Herr (Carl Engle) companion of Gap, PA, Susan Herr of Farrell, PA, and Ellen Walters (Dennis) of Long Island, NY, grandchildren, Winston and Emmett Walters, and a brother, Paul Herr of Willow Street, PA. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Howett late husband of Anne.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
