86 Years
Atglen

Shirley Louise Backenstose Huntsinger, 86, of Atglen, formerly of Coatesville, passed away on December 12th, after battling dementia for the last 5 years. She was the wife of William Huntsinger, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville she was the daughter of the late Robert and Irma Eshleman Backenstose.

Shirley retired from secretarial work and proceeded to enjoy retirement with Bill, her grandkids, and a great-granddaughter. She loved to garden with Bill, pursued her creative hobbies of crocheting, knitting and crafting with the kids. She loved to bake and loved to entertain the whole family with recipes from her childhood.

Shirley was a lifelong Methodist and attended Grace United Methodist Church in Coatesville. Upon moving to Atglen, she attended Faith Community United Methodist Church and considered her church family as one of her own.

Shirley loved to celebrate the holidays with her family. She would bake for weeks ahead of time so all 3 children had containers of cookies to last through the holidays. They ate cookies for weeks after!! She was so proud of her grandchildren, 2 of which were in the military and one that graduated Summa Cum Laude from Juniata College. Her goal in life was to leave a legacy behind for all of them, and she did indeed accomplish that through her love and kindness.

Shirley will be missed so much by her friends and family, but she is now at peace with Bill and her family that went before her.

Shirley is survived by her 3 children, Diane Bujnovsky of Reading, PA, Donna, wife of Lynnwood Greiss of Elverson, Darren, husband of Valarie Huntsinger of Atglen, grandchildren, Eric Lubas, Maris Wilson, CJ Huntsinger, and great-granddaughter, Emma Lubas.

Our family is so sad about the passing of Mrs. Huntsinger.  Thought of both her and Mr. Huntsinger when the boys were out sledding yesterday, they always loved watching our kids playing outside.  I always said they watched our kids better then we did!  She is at peace and together again with Mr. H - I know they are both happy!
