Aleena D. "Lena" Griffy, 56, of Coatesville, died on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester after a lengthy illness. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Robert Griffy, Sr. and Martha E. Martin.


Lena graduated from Octorara High School, class of 1973 and the Coatesville Vo-Tech School where she excelled in food prep. She was employed by Lukens Steel in the 1970's then moved to Philadelphia where she worked as a home healthcare aid until her illness in 1996.


She was a member of the Enon Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and helped in the kitchen. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, arts and crafts and fishing when she could go.


She is survived by one son, Eric M. Griffy of Las Vegas, NV and fiance Marion, four brothers; Lester Martin and Robert Griffy both of Philadelphia, Ronald Griffy of Las Vegas, NV and Melvin Griffy and wife Kim of Peroia, AZ, four sisters; Sheena, wife of Gordon Flowers, Marva


 


Brown and Malvina Pernsley all of Coatesville and Arva Brown of Philadelphia, special nephew and niece Chris A. Parker of San Diego, CA and Kerri Kirkland of Ft. Mill, SC, step sister Elizabeth Perkins of Coatesville and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Also, special thanks to her caregiver Tammy. She was preceded in death by a brother Hershel W. Martin.


Jubilee Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Enon Baptist Church, 297 Willow Street, West Grove, PA 19390 with visitation from 10 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to DaVita Jennersville Dialysis Center, 1011 W. Baltimore Pike, West Grove, PA 19390.

I meet Lena when we were room-mates in Brandywine hospital. What a beautiful lady she was. I always called her Whoopie & she called me miss. Daisy....we loved each other. We kept in touch off & on through out the years. Marva, I hope you remember me, I went to school with you. May God bless you & your family.
