99 Years
Wagontown

Ada Catharine Bunting, 99, of Wagontown PA went to be with her Lord on August 1, 2019.

She was the daughter of the late Elsie and Carl Jefferis and the loving wife for 62 years of the late Reverend Richard L. Bunting.  She was a member of Wagontown Union Chapel and in her later years, Kingsway Church.

Ada was born in Modena PA on February 22, 1920. She graduated from Coatesville High School in 1936 where she was on student council, sang with the Meistersingers, and was a member of both the tennis and basketball teams. During these teenage years, she spent summers at Pinebrook Bible Conference.  Her strong faith lead her to a life of serving Jesus Christ.  In 1937 she received her degree from Banks College and went on to study at Philadelphia College Bible School and Grace Bible Institute. While on this path she met the love of her life, Richard, and they married in 1942.

In 1944, Ada opened the Religious Book Shop in Coatesville and owned and operated it with determination and commitment for decades until they sold it in 1994.

One of Ada‘s proudest accomplishments was the establishment of the Wagontown Union Chapel in the late 1940s which she and Richard worked on with endless dedication.  Richard served as Pastor for many decades and Ada tirelessly fulfilled her role of a Pastor‘s wife.

Ada loved playing the piano or organ for services and weddings, teaching Sunday School, preparing the Sunday service bulletin, and tackling any other task she took on.

And as if she wasn’t busy enough, Ada found time for many other causes.  Ada served as Secretary of the Child Evangelism Fellowship from 1950 to 2015.  In the early 1950s, she and Richard had a ministry in their home for men with alcohol problems. She served meals at City Gate Mission in Coatesville. She also was a member of Westminster Fellowship.

Following Richard‘s retirement at Wagontown Union Chapel, they attended Kingsway Church where Ada also played the piano and was involved with the Children’s Moments Ministry.
Ada enjoyed spending her free time with people and they often invited church families and friends to their cabin in the Poconos or on road trips in their RV.  And she cherished the companionship of her four-legged friends, Jeb, Elliott, and Tasha, as well.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ada was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Elizabeth, age 5.  She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Carolyn Griswold (Guy) Aiken SC, Mary Lou Edwards (Douglas) Fort Myers FL, William Bunting (Deborah) Wilmington DE, and Thomas Bunting (Patricia) Green Lane PA; and her cousins, Sharon Hamilton (Roy) Quarryville PA, Linda White (Bill) Gap PA, Donald Coleman, Philadelphia PA, David Coleman, East Fallowfield PA, Susan Jones (David) East Fallowfield PA, and Sandra Wrigley (Bruce) East Fallowfield PA.

Ada's funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 7th, 2019 at 11 AM at Wagontown Union Chapel, 469 W Kings Hwy, Coatesville, PA 19320 with Pastor Tim Crans officiating.  Interment will follow at Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery.  The viewing will be held at the Church from 10 until 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ada’s memory may be made to Wagontown Union Chapel, Kingsway Church, City Gate Mission or the Camp at the Old Mill.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg.  Online condolences can be posted at www.wildefuneralhome.com

I remember Ada Bunting vividly; she and her husband were good friends to my Mom & Dad.  I remember singing at the Wagontown Chapel on occasion with my brothers & sisters.  She was graceful, loving & compassionate ... RIP, lovely lady.

Mrs. Bunting was a truly remarkable lady. I grew up in Wagontown Chapel and have very found memories of her and Mr. Bunting. I remember helping her with Bible School and going to the bookstore after school with my parents. They bought my first bible there and I still have it. She was truly an amazing woman
