Joseph H. Donnelly, 97, of Pomeroy, PA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. He was the husband of the late Mary L. (McDonald) Donnelly who passed away in 2001. Born in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Marron) Donnelly.
Joe grew up in the Malvern area and went to serve his country in the U.S. Army at the end of WWII. After returning home he worked doing flooring installation and ceramic tile and then maintenance at the Brandywine Hospital.
He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially on holidays, at cookouts, and family dinners. He enjoyed cooking and baking. Family favorites were candied sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. When he was younger he raised and raced pigeons. Some of his hobbies through life were gardening, trout fishing, making balsa wood model airplanes, "paint by number" kits, and swing music of the big band era.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Thompson, of Quarryville, PA, two grandchildren, Brad (Jodi) Thompson of Conestoga, PA and Sherry (Matt) Reid of Fernandina Beach, Florida, four great grandchildren; Jaden Thompson, Brooke, Madison and Taya Reid. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph H (Joey) Donnelly and a son-in-law, Robert Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. from the Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, PA, with a viewing starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment, with military honors, to follow at Upper Octorara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to either the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1400 Black Horse Hill rd., Coatesville, PA, 19320, or to the Brandywine River Valley Hospice, 121 Tower Lane, Oxford, PA, 19363.
