Madelyn Eva Lohr, 21, of Coatesville, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019.

Born in Bryn Mawr, Madelyn was the beloved daughter of Laura L. (Lyon) and Kurtis B. Lohr.

Maddie was hoping to put her artistic talent to use in a career someday soon, but wasn’t sure which medium she would pursue to express herself. Madelyn had suffered with anxiety and depression since childhood, and sadly turned to drugs to try and soothe her pain. Addiction does not care who you are, what you are, what you do, or who loves you. Addiction gets people who hurt and people who don’t hurt, only adding pain and misery.

Madelyn had been in recovery since February 2019, working on getting herself back. She was feeling very hopeful and had a renewed sense of self-love and appreciation looking forward to taking art classes to revive her love of creating beauty, something that her addiction had stolen from her.

But something gave her a moment of doubt that Saturday and she found the opportunity to use heroin one more time. It was her last and her last moment of doubt.

Madelyn wished that addiction, in all its forms, would be conquered by all she met who were suffering and struggling like her. She was a Ray of light in this ugly world.

Madelyn was affectionately called "Maddie Rabbit" and "Madger Badger" by her family.

From a young age, Madelyn was fascinated with nature.  She was an artist at heart who excelled in photography, drawing, sculpture, and was a phenomenal smoothie maker.  Madelyn wanted to put her artistic talent to work as a pastry chef.  Madelyn had a goofy sense of humor and enjoyed the comedy duo, Tim and Eric.  She loved cats and enjoyed eating sushi.

She is survived, in addition to her parents, by her sister, Hana Lohr; her paternal grandparents, Jim and Helen Lohr, and maternal grandparents, Gerry and Bobbie Hertel; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She will be missed dearly by her five beloved cats and two dogs.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday October 5, 2019 at 1PM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, Pa. with a visitation from 11 AM until the time of the service.

Condolences

Maddie reached out to me a couple months ago when I was going through a dark time and I was heartbroken to find out that I'd never have the chance to truly thank her for her advice, and for being a kind and welcoming person.

We were in the same graduating class and had one or two mutual friends, and although I never had the chance to know her personally, some of my happiest and most vivid memories from CASH involve her and her wondeful sense of humour.

No amount of kind words and apologies can ever ease the overwhelming grief that comes with the loss of a loved one, and I've definitely been struggling to find the words to convey the pain experienced since hearing of her passing.. but I hope Maddie's family can find some comfort in knowing that her existence had such a great impact on people she may have never known. I will hold Maddie's memory and the words of ecouragement and understanding she gave in my mind and heart for the rest of my life.

I truly hope Maddie landed somewhere peaceful, and I hope to see her again some day.

I am praying for you all. Thank you for honoring Madelyn in this way. I didn't know her and was looking for a family member. As soon as I saw her age I knew. Her story brought me to tears as I also know too well what this terrible disease does to people and their families. Thank you for your honesty and your desire to do something to spare others the misery and loss you are feeling. God Bless you. She is finally at peace and in a much better place than we are because we are left to suffer these losses. When you see her again she will finally be as God meant her to be...small comfort I know but I never know what to say...

I once read "Even those that never fully blossom bring beauty into the world."  Children bring a special type of beauty into our lives and I am so very sorry yours has been cut short.  All my love and prayers to the entire family.

My condolences to the Lohr family at this very difficult time. Maddie was loved by many and especially by me because of the love and compassion she showed me in literally saving my life and nursing me back to health. Although she is no longer here physically, she left an indelible life print that touched a lot of people in a positive way including my self. I love you Maddie and you will truly be missed. Your Friend Lance.
