Norman T. Bernard Jr., 93, passed away on November 2, 2026.
Born on November 21, 1932, Norman lived a life marked by humility, devotion, honesty, and quiet kindness. He was a deliberate and loving man whose steady presence meant so much to those who knew him. A Christian in faith and character, he carried himself with gentleness and purpose, leaving behind the example of a life well lived.
Norman graduated from Scott Senior High School in 1950. That same year, he began a long and faithful career with Lukens Steel Co., where he served as an Order Service Supervisor from 1950 until 1994. His years of work reflected the same dependable and conscientious spirit that defined every part of his life.
He also served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1953/54, he served as a Corporal, stationed in South Korea with Headquarters Company, 55th QM BD Korea. His military honors included the Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Citation, and Korean Service Medal. He remained deeply proud of his service, and being a veteran was among the accomplishments he valued most.
Norman was proud to be a member of and/or play a significant role in; Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion, Boy Scouts and the Wagontown Chapel Board of Trustees.
Outside of work and service, Norman found joy in simple and lasting pleasures. He loved playing the guitar/harmonica, family vacations/holidays, and crossword puzzles, and he had a special affection for good old country music. Some of the memories held most dearly by his family include Cook Forest vacations, the sound of his guitar, traditional country music, evenings with Hee Haw and Whispering Bill Anderson, and his interests in genealogy. These were the things that brought warmth to everyday life and created lasting bonds with those around him.
Above all, Norman was proud to be a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sons, Joseph (Charlotte), James (Kathy) and Paul (Kristin). His family circle also includes five grandchildren; Jessica Leisey (Shawn), Joel Bernard, Kara Seanor (Tim), Kennedy Bernard, Chase Bernard and six great-grandchildren, each of whom shared in the love and strength of his life and legacy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Polly Bernard (70+ years), sisters, Anna McAllister, Marion Robinson, and Edith Martin, and by his parents, Norman Bernard Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Pfitzenmeyer.
Norman will be remembered for his quiet strength, his loving heart, his faithful service, and the comfort of his steady presence. In the music he loved, the family memories he helped create, and the generations who carry his name and values forward, his life will continue to be cherished.
