Leon was my neighbor for the first twenty-plus years years of my life, and I will always have many great memories of him; his humor, good cheer, dedication, and above all - his integrity. I remember he always carried a well-worn silver dollar in his pocket, and one day he told me his Mother (I think) had given it to him before he went overseas in World War II and he carried it with him as a good-luck charm on all of the 35 bombing missions he flew. Needless to say, both Leon and his circa - 1923 silver dollar; the year of his birth - came home safely. I hope that silver dollar is being cherished by someone now. He always had a nickname for me when I was a lad and he was the only person who ever called me by that particular nickname as well, so my hope is to eventually meet up with Leon again and I expect him to address me by that nickname again when we do! Thanks to Leon. He was such a good man and such a good influence on so many people during his long lifetime. The world will never have another Leon Wiggins, but it sure could use a lot more like him. He will not be forgotten by those who knew and respected him, for sure.
