Anita Louise Barnes, 76, of Surf City, NJ, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, February 6, 2023, at her daughter's home in Denver, PA. She was the wife of the late James N. Barnes who passed away in 2003. Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Bertha (Sickinger) Bulwin.

Anita was a secretary for J.L. Hammett Office Supply Company and later worked at Kean College for food services. She retired in 2010.

Anita is survived by her children, Christopher Barnes of Oak Ridge, NJ, Jennifer (Chad) Wallace of Denver, PA, and Scott (Jamie) Barnes of Omaha, NE, eight grandchildren (Melissa, Ethan, Kahli, Benjamin, Serena, Riley, Lucas, and Waverly) and a sister, Lorainne (Ron) Bergondo and her niece, Deanna Cadmus, of CT.

Anita’s main residence was in Union, NJ and she shared time at her vacation home, which later became her home in retirement, on LBI. She never missed an opportunity to gather with her family and friends. She enjoyed the beach, games, watching game shows, and shopping. She also kept active by exercising in aerobics classes, bowling, walking miles in her beloved town, and country line dancing. Travel was another of Anita’s favorite pastimes. She often visited her children and grandkids. She also took annual trips to Florida and South Carolina with “the ladies” and other excursions. Anita was an avid fan of the Yankees and even got to go to a game this summer, which was a highlight for her!

Religion was important to Anita, and she attended St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and she loved walking to St. Thomas church or attending mass online when she was not able to attend in person.

Finally, Anita was an active member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Surf City Volunteer Fire Company, and it is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Surf City Volunteer Fire Company and EMS. tel:(609) 494-6127

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held in early summer in Surf City. Details will be posted upon completion.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg, PA. Online condolences can be posted at www.wildefuneralhome.com
