Shirley E. Acker, lovingly known as "Cool Shirley," passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in West Chester, PA, at the age of 97. Born on October 18, 1928, in Coatesville, PA, Shirley touched the lives of many with her devoted nature and caring personality.
Shirley was a proud mother who prioritized family above all else. She found joy in simple pleasures, recalling fond memories of picnics at Riverside Beach in Maryland with her beloved sister-in-laws, Mildred and Jean, and her family. Her dedication to raising her four children stands as one of her proudest accomplishments, a testament to her nurturing spirit and commitment to her loved ones.
In her earlier years, Shirley demonstrated her resilience and determination by working at the Penguin Bomb Factory during World War II, where she contributed to the war effort by helping to make grenades. Despite this noteworthy chapter in her life, it was in the warmth of her home where Shirley truly thrived. She enjoyed summer evening rides in the family convertible and cherished the comfort of being with the people she loved.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Marlyn Morris Smith; her daughter, Susan Acker Heald; her sons, William Acker Jr. and Kerry Acker Sr.; as well as ten grandchildren, including William the 3rd, James, Kerry Jr., Kourtney, Kayla, Olivia, Chloe, Heather, Darth, and Brandon (deceased). Furthermore, her legacy continues through her eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Acker Sr., and her daughter, Cheryl Ann Acker.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Shirley’s life at Wilde Funeral Home located at 434 Main Street, Parkesburg, PA, on January 17, 2026. There will be a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Shirley E. Acker will be remembered for her loving heart, her unwavering devotion to family, and the countless memories she created with those she held dear. Her spirit will live on through the lives she touched and the love she so freely shared.
