Obituary

Roger Bruce Miller, 85, of Parkesburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, with his daughters by his side.

Born on December 22, 1940, in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Roger was the son of the late Norman Miller and Louise Woods Miller.

Roger attended Lenover School as a child and later moved to Philadelphia where he attended William Sayre High School. From an early age, Roger understood the value of hard work. His first job was at Valley Green Mushroom Farm in Christiana, earning just 90 cents per hour. Throughout his life, he held many positions at various employers including King’s Ranch, Backwater Farms, Bally Mushroom Company.

Later, Roger worked as a mechanic for Green Giant and Pillsbury for 33 years retiring in 1997 earning recognition for perfect attendance—a testament to his dedication, work ethic, and reliability. Following retirement, he found great joy driving members of the Amish community until a spinal cord injury in 2012 left him paralyzed.

Roger was a self-taught mechanic with a remarkable gift for repairing almost anything. There wasn’t a car, motorcycle, tractor, or piece of equipment he couldn’t figure out. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together again—sometimes with a few extra screws left over. Family and friends knew that if something was broken, Roger was the person to call. Whether it was a vehicle, a machine, or a personal problem, he was always willing to lend a helping hand and find a solution.

Roger also had a deep love for music. Whether he was working in the yard or spending time at home, music was always playing. From Willie Nelson to Will Smith, Roger enjoyed a wide variety of music and appreciated them all. In the final weeks of his life, music continued to bring him peace and comfort as his family surrounded him with gospel, rap, and R&B—genres that reflected both his personality and the many seasons of his life.

In 1963, Roger married the love of his life, Phyllis A. Dickinson-Miller, and together they raised three children. Their home was a gathering place for family and friends. The doors were rarely locked, and everyone was welcomed with open arms. Roger and Phyllis enjoyed traveling with loved ones, creating cherished memories in Virginia, Nags Head, North Carolina, Florida, Cape Cod and New Mexico—some of their favorite destinations.

Roger was an avid fisherman and proudly belonged to the Parkesburg Fishermen’s Club.

His faith was an important part of his life. Roger attended Mt. Zion AME Church in Atglen, Pennsylvania, during his childhood and later accepted the gift of salvation, dedicating his life to Christ under the guidance of Reverend Beatrice Nichols at By God’s Grace Community Church.

Roger leaves behind a legacy of love and treasured memories. He is survived by his daughters, Deonna L. Harrell (Brett), Downingtown, PA and Celestine Y. “Tena” Miller; (Quran) Parkesburg, PA, his sister, Brenda McKinney (Roy) of Collegeville, PA; daughter-in-law Danielle Thomas Boronell Miller of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother-in-law Frederick Dickinson (Ruby) of Camden, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren, Brandon, Brianna, Christopher (Adrianne), Paris, Dejamarie (Siale), Jalen (Maria), Donte, Trae, Quran, John, Devon, and Tyler; bonus granddaughter Adeja Morris, whose loving care and devotion to Pop-Pop brought him great comfort; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; sisters-in-law Bonnie Dickinson, Alison Dickinson, and Joan Dickinson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Phyllis A. Miller; his sons, Roger B. Miller, Robert B. Miller, and John Bosley; and his sisters, Beverly Powell and Norma Colen.

Roger’s life was defined by hard work, unwavering devotion to family, a willingness to help others, a love of music, and a faith that sustained him throughout his journey. His legacy will continue to live on in the many lives he touched, and the countless memories shared by those who loved him.
