Robert Walker, a devoted family man, cherished veteran, and dedicated janitor, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Born on February 27, 1950, in Wilmington, Delaware, Robert lived a life marked by kindness, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.
Throughout his career, Robert devoted many years as a janitor for Pocopson Elementary and the Unionville School District, where his warm and welcoming nature left a lasting impression on students, staff, and community members alike. Known for his great sense of humor and ability to make others feel at ease, Robert was beloved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His service to his Country was distinguished and honorable. Robert proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran. His military honors included the Purple Heart with two stars, the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Meritorious Mast. These accolades reflected not only his bravery but also his dedication and sacrifice.
Robert’s personal passions included fervently cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, a pastime through which he found joy and camaraderie, as well as collecting memorabilia that celebrated his love for the team.
Faith was a cornerstone in Robert’s life. He was a faithful attendee of The Full Gospel Apostolic Church of Kennet Square, Pennsylvania, where he served as an elder, lent his voice to the worship team, and contributed in many other meaningful ways to the church community. His spiritual leadership and commitment deeply enriched the lives of his fellow congregants.
He is survived by a loving family who will carry forward his memory. His wife, Karen J. Walker of Oxford, Pennsylvania, and his children: Joyce Carnell of New Castle, Delaware and Rob Walker of Perryville, MD, along with his stepchildren, Connie Dunn of Oxford, Pennsylvania; Leslie Laray of Hardwood, North Carolina; Jacob Lusby Jr. of Parkesburg, PA and Kevin Coy Sr. of Gaithersburg, MD. His siblings include Donald Walker of Berlin, Maryland; Barbara Dunn of Nottingham, Pennsylvania; Delores Roark of Kemblesville, Pennsylvania; and John Kennedy Walker of Smyrna, Delaware. Robert was also a cherished uncle to Shannon Masey. His grandchildren, Kyle Leffew, Caleb Leffew, Shawn Dunn, Barbara Dunn, Caleb Lusby, Tyler Lusby, Kevin Coy, Jr., Josh Snyder, Austin Jones, Matthew Coy, Zachary Coy and Anthony Coy were a source of great pride and joy.
Robert Walker’s legacy is one of selfless service, heartfelt kindness, and unwavering dedication—to his family, his community, his country, and his faith. He will be remembered with deep respect and affection by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Full Gospel Apostolic Church, 430 E. S. St., Kennett Square, PA. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
