Robert D. Hopkins

Robert David “Hoppy” Hopkins passed away on May 31, 2025, at the age of 83 at his home in Parkesburg Pennsylvania with his wife and daughter by his side. The only child of Virginia and Vearl Hopkins, was born on June 13, 1941, at the Coatesville Hospital. A 1959 graduate of Octorara High School, Hoppy began working at Lukens Steel in Coatesville Pa when his father demanded that “he get a job asap.” “The Clad Man”, as he called himself, dedicated 42 years of his life, retiring in 2001. On August 3rd, 1979 Robert married Carolyn Barton. They welcomed their only child together, Ami, on April 29th, 1980.

Robert was a passionate sports enthusiast, who loved watching basketball, baseball, football, boxing and even nascar. He shared his interest in sports with his daughter, with whom he spent a considerable amount of time at various sporting events such as High School Basketball games. He was an avid fan of the Octorara Boys basketball team supporting and watching thru all their wins and losses. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with special friends such as Eddie Hammond. He also enjoyed hanging out at Stan’s Bar with The Parkesburg Crew (too many names to mention). He spent many days hanging out in the backyard of his home with lifelong friend and neighbor Sam Martin. When fishing and hunting became too difficult for him to do, he found a new hobby of thrift shopping with long time friend Joe Martin. The last 6 years of his life, Hoppy found great joy in spending time with his favorite person in the world, His Granddaughter Nori.

Robert is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Barton Hopkins; his daughter, Ami Hopkins and her partner Raul; granddaughter, Nori Hernandez; stepdaughter, Angela Lewis; and step-grandchildren, Darrius Willie, A’nyah Adams, and Adrianna Adams. He was preceded in death by his father, Vearl Hopkins, and mother, Virginia Speed Hopkins.

A service to honor Robert’s life will be held on Thursday, June 12th from The Wilde Funeral Home in Parkesburg, PA with visitation from 9:00-11:00 am with the service to follow starting at 11:00 am.
