Mary Ellen Curran, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away peacefully at her residence on December 15, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on August 9, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA, Mary Ellen lived a life marked by service, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family and her faith.
Mary Ellen’s professional journey began with her role at the FBI in Philadelphia, where she worked from 1968 until 1975. Following this, she dedicated 12 years to Kesler's Flowers in Glenside, PA, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and her ability to bring beauty into the lives of others. Her career continued at Colonial Family Practice from 1990 to 1999, and she concluded her professional life at Brueniger & Sons Insurance, a position she held from 2000 to 2012. Throughout her varied career, Mary Ellen exemplified dedication and professionalism.
A proud graduate of St. Hubert's High School in Philadelphia, class of 1968, Mary Ellen carried the values instilled in her from an early age throughout her life. She was kind and welcoming, always making others feel at ease, complemented by a delightful sense of humor that left an impression on everyone she met. A devoted Catholic, she found joy and purpose at St. Joseph's Church in Downingtown, where she also served as a Lector, sharing her faith with her community. Her involvement extended further as an active member of the PTA at St. John of the Cross School, reflecting her commitment to nurturing the next generation.
Mary Ellen cherished every moment spent with her family, who were her pride and joy. She is survived by her devoted husband, David A. Curran of Coatesville, PA, and her three daughters: Kelly A. (Kenneth) Burk of Lincoln University, PA; Christine M. (Anthony) Mattick of Etters, PA; and Colleen M. (Christopher) Kuchta of Hobe Sound, FL. She also leaves behind four adoring grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Anthony, Jackson, and Kyle, who will forever carry her legacy in their hearts, as well as her six beloved grand-dogs: Ziggy, Zorro, Autumn, Winter, Echo, and Goose.
Mary Ellen was also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy A. Farrell, and is survived by her two brothers, Gerald J. Nejman of Frenchtown, NJ, and James A. Nejman of McKinney, TX.
As we remember Mary Ellen Curran, we celebrate a life devoted to family, community, and faith. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Manor Ave., Downingtown, PA, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
