Marvin Elwood Young, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Pocopson Home where he had resided for the past several years. He was the devoted husband of the late Iva J. Young.

Born in Tazewell, Virginia, Elwood was the son of the late Homer Fairbanks Young and Stella Lambert Young.

A 1959 graduate of Unionville High School, Elwood was an active student athlete who participated in both basketball and soccer. Following graduation he proudly served in the US Army during the Cold War Era.

Elwood's early years were spent working on The King Ranch alongside his father and brothers as ranch hands. He dedicated much of his professional life to working with horses, a passion both his livelihood and his greatest enjoyment. For many years he was employed at Runnymede Farm in Chester County. Known as a skilled and respected horseman, he spent countless hours caring for and training horses.

Beyond his work Elwood embraced the outdoors and the traditions he loved. He enjoyed fox hunting, horse showing and all forms of hunting. He was also a lifelong member of the Northern Lancaster Beagle Club, where he earned awards and recognition through his participation in beagle field trials.

Family was the center of Elwood's life. He is survived by two children Wendi E. Mako (Dave) of Claymont, Delaware and Marvin E. "Marty" Young Jr (Carol) of Coatesville, PA, five grandchildren, Erika Reed, Christopher Mako, Philip Young, Devon Young, Caroline Young two great grandchildren, Bryan and Charles and four siblings; Russell Young, Harold Young, Lois Leslie and Catherine "Kitty" Daniels. He also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings; Helen Young, Arnold Young and Graham Young.

Elwood will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to the horses and hounds he cherished and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. His quiet strength, hardworking spirit and passion for the outdoors will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be at a later time.
