Lena M. Verdegem, a devoted homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, in West Chester, PA. Born on February 1, 1935, in Independence, Virginia, Lena lived a life marked by love, dedication, and steadfast commitment to her family and faith.

A graduate of S. Horace Scott High School, class of 1952, Lena embraced the role of homemaker with grace and purpose. She was married for 57 wonderful years to her beloved husband, Vincent Verdegem, who served in the military and preceded her in death in 2012.

Lena was a faithful attendee of Word Up Community Church.

She is survived by her sons, Vincent Jr. and his wife, Sue of Denver, PA, and William A. Verdegem and his wife, Jeanne of West Chester, PA. Lena's legacy continues through her five grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings: Ann Petersen of Atglen, PA, Fairbanks Phipps Jr. and wife Janice of Parkesburg, PA.

In addition to her husband, Lena was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Verdegem; parents, Fairbanks Phipps and Ina Hill; and three sisters, Claudia Davis, Jessica Plank and Jean Huggins.

Lena Verdegem’s life was one of quiet impact, characterized by her unwavering love for her family and her community. Her memory remains a blessing to all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA with visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to the time of the service.
