Kathleen Marie Cortright, affectionately known as "Kathy" or "Nee," passed away on June 12, 2025, at Newport Meadows Nursing Home in Christiana, PA. The daughter of Charles and Ruth Burkey, Kathy was born on February 20, 1950, in West Chester, PA.
A proud graduate of Great Valley High School, Kathy laid the foundation for a commendable career in banking, where she later worked for Eastown Township and in the fraud department at AMP. Her knack for identifying counterfeit currency through mere touch showcased not just her skill, but also her sharp intellect—a testament to her meticulous nature.
Kathy was known for her big, unique personality and a sense of propriety that harkened back to old-school values. With a sharp wit and an admirable sense of humor, she could lift spirits and cultivate laughter within any group. Much to the delight of her friends and family, Kathy never used curse words; her first concern always centered on the well-being of others, exemplifying her kind-hearted nature.
In her leisure time, Kathy enjoyed playing Bejeweled, engaging with friends across Facebook, and, in her younger years, reveling in the joy of dancing. She cherished moments spent sitting around, chatting and laughing with those she loved, creating lasting memories filled with warmth and affection.
Kathy is survived by her half-sister, Cheryl Killinger; 1st cousins Pete Burkey, Barbara Walsh, and Bernice Leamy; 2nd cousins, Adam and Lynn Burkey; 3rd cousins, Anthony, Morgan, and Jordyn Burkey; and a host of extended family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Cortright, and her only child, Kim Cortright.
In remembrance of Kathy, we celebrate her zest for life, her unwavering kindness, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed but will always remain in our memories and stories, a guiding light reflected in the laughter she so cherished.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wilde Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service beginning at 12:00 PM.
Immediately following the service, interment will take place at Glen Run Cemetery.
