John Steczak, 89, formerly of Coatesville, PA, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, in West Chester, PA. He was the husband of the late Ruth Ann Armentrout Steczak, who had been married for sixty-two years. Born in Coatesville on June 20,1935, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Mary Adams Steczak.
John was a 1955 graduate of Scott High School in Coatesville. He worked as a Production Control Manager for Lukens and Bethlehem Steel Company. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and flying racing pigeons. John’s passion was baseball. He played on teams from age ten through to his senior year of high school. He earned many trophies for his infield talent and his pitching. Rumor has it, he and a buddy talked to the Phillies, but the team was moving out to Oakland. Eventually he coached various little league teams. John hung his glove up at age 65 after playing in the senior men’s softball league.
John (Pa) treasured every moment with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. John was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Coatesville until its closing. He was baptized in his late 80’s at Christ Community Church in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his children, Joanne (Paul) Kornet of West Chester, Susanne (Nelson) Johnson of Denver, PA, and John B. (Patricia) Steczak of Media, PA, six grandchildren,nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Margaret M. Rodgers of Honey Brook, PA, He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael J. Steczak Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. from the Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, PA, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local food bank.
