Joan Porter Pierson, a loving wife to Joseph and a devoted mother to her sons Douglass and Wayne, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at Ware Presbyterian Village in Oxford, PA. Born on August 3, 1933, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Lloyd and Frances (Maclary) Porter, Joan was known for her strength and remarkable work ethic.
A lifelong music enthusiast, Joan taught piano at the West Fallowfield Christian School for 40 years before retiring last year, and also taught music in her home. She also played the piano/organ at Cochranville Methodist Church for over 50 years. Joan and Joe ran a dairy and crop farm in Cochranville for many years. After her husband’s passing in 2017, Joan joined a handbell ensemble.
An excellent cook, Joan was renowned for her delicious sticky buns.
Joan is survived by her son, Joseph D. (Marsha) Pierson; grandchildren, Britian (Frank) Berrones, Amanda Pierson, Luke (Alexis) Pierson, and Dawn Pierson; great-grandchildren, Frankie (Blair) Berrones, Lance Berrones, Daemon Cook, and Josiah Pierson; sister, Marjorie Marshall; brother, Lloyd (Dorothy) Porter; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. Pierson, and son, Wayne Pierson.
A memorial service will be held in the spring, and will be announced at a later date.
In her memory, charitable donations can be made to Cochranville Methodist Church or the Brandywine Valley SPCA in West Chester.
