Jane Louise Cairns Bevan

Jane Cairns Bevan passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by her husband and daughters, after a brief illness.

Jane is survived by her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Morgan Bevan, and her three daughters: Sue Bevan Baggott (Steve), Sandy Bevan Ritchey (Steven), and Sheri Bevan Comisac (Glenn). She was a cherished grandmother to Zoey Meyer-Jens, Alex Baggott-Rowe (Allison), Chris Baggott, Morgan Comisac (Kameron), Leah Erskine (Ryan), Evan Comisac, and Alden Ritchey, and a proud great-grandmother to Martha Jane Erskine and Elvera Katherine Erskine.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Eleanor Cairns, and her brothers, Charles Cairns and Robert “Sam” Cairns.

Jane was born on June 29, 1937, to Charles and Eleanor Cairns. She grew up in rural Sadsburyville, Pennsylvania, raised by a teacher and a trainman. She began her education in a one room schoolhouse where her mother taught. She graduated from Coatesville High School where she enjoyed musical activities including playing the flute in the band.

Jane and Bob met on a blind date at the Strand Theater on the boardwalk in Ocean City, New Jersey in 1958. They affectionately called each other “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” the rest of their lives. That same summer Jane was crowned Miss Hogates (the hotel and restaurant she worked every summer during college).

After graduating from Millersville State Teachers College in 1959, Jane was a second grade teacher. A few weeks after Bob’s graduation from Lehigh, they wed on a sunlit day on the 25th of June of 1960 at Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania.

Jane and Bob moved to their first apartment in Narberth, Pennsylvania and formed close friendships with their dear neighbors. Life got busy quickly as they welcomed their first two daughters, Susan and Sandy. In 1964, after Jane saved their pennies, they moved their growing family to their first home in Penn Wynne, Pennsylvania. They shared their cozy home on Dover Road with their three daughters and beloved dog Heidi Love Bevan.

Jane and Bob retired to Hershey’s Mill in West Chester in 1999. They relocated to Freedom Village at Brandywine in Coatesville in 2024.

Jane was an active member at Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, and later a regular attender at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Frazer. She was involved in several faith-based ministries and choirs where she formed many friendships.

Throughout the years of being a loving mother and supportive wife, Jane was a substitute teacher, teacher of homebound students, Sunday School teacher, helper to many, and volunteer for many meaningful organizations. She was recognized for her over 3,500 hours of volunteer service with a non-profit, call-in help line called 1-800-Contact Philadelphia - now called Contact Philadelphia. She was a voice of support and care for those in need of a caring listener and facilitated calls with their TTY services for the deaf.

Jane had a heart for those who were often overlooked. She listened closely and sincerely appreciated and celebrated who they were as individuals. Jane helped them know they were loved and cared about - no greater gift.

Jane was an avid card and letter writer. She had a special heart for the elderly. Jane wrote thousands of cards and made countless visits to elderly friends.

Jane also loved music and adventures. She played the flute, sang in multiple choirs, and loved attending musicals and the symphony. Jane’s love of travel and adventures big and small began as a child with summer train trips over the continental United States and then a European tour after she graduated from college. Other memorable adventures include her trip to Asia with Gramby, visits with her parents in Fort Myers, Florida, travels to the UK to visit the Baggotts in Eton, and a winter visit to Brussels, Belgium with the Comisac family.

Jane’s faith was an unshakeable foundation for her through good times and bad. She approached her passing with the knowledge that she would be with the Lord, and the loved ones who had gone before her.

Jane will be remembered with love by her family and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will remain a lasting part of the lives of those who knew and loved her.

A private family-only service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jane's honor to Covenant Presbyterian Church (www.covenantfrazer.org ), Overbrook Presbyterian Church ( www.overbrookpresb.org ) or NAMI/National Alliance on Mental Illness (www.nami.org).
