With love, we share the news of the passing of James P. Cain at the age of 78.
Born on March 1, 1947, in Shamokin, PA, Jim was a proud graduate of Coal Township High School Class of ’65. Jim’s heart belonged to his family and his faith. He married his beloved wife, Dolores Anne (Gerrity) Cain, on October 27, 1973, at the former St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Shamokin. They settled in Pomeroy, PA, where they built a beautiful life together and raised two daughters, Christen and Kerry, who were his pride and joy.
A master of his craft, Jim spent 26 years as a machinist with Somat Corp. Later in life, he brought his friendly smile to the Oxford PennDOT Photo Center, where he served as a photo technician for 11 years. His dedication to people didn't go unnoticed; he was honored with the State’s Top Customer Service Award—a testament to his cheerful personality.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Jim’s life was deeply rooted in Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church. Whether as a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, teaching Religious Education classes, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, or sharing his gifts with the Charismatic Prayer community, Jim lived his faith every single day.
Jim is survived by his wife, Dolores (Dee); his daughters, Christen and Kerry Cain of Fairfax, VA; his brother, Francis L. Cain and his wife Carol of Crestwood, KY; his niece, Lisa Schmidt and her husband Mike and son Wesley of Walton, KY; his nephew, Charles Reick of Riverside, CA; great-niece Jessie Reick, and great-nephew George Reick.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis L. Cain & Mary (Fir) Cain, his sister Shirley (Cain) Reick, and his nephew Dennis “Denny” Reick.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life on Friday, February 20th, at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Parkesburg, PA. A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM.
In place of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Charities of Philadelphia in his name.
