Obituary

Gerald Lee Hoover, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at Chester County Hospital. Born on January 19, 1945, in Guys Mills, Pennsylvania, Lee’s life was marked by kindness, commitment, and a deep love for his family and community.

Lee attended Randolph-East Mead High School, where he built the foundations for a life rooted in hard work and service. He was a member of the Avondale United Methodist Church and later Zion Methodist Church of Northeast. He answered the call to serve his country with honor as a member of the United States Navy. His role as an electrician for the Navy not only showcased his remarkable technical skills but also his dedication to supporting those around him. His Navy service was a source of pride throughout his life, and he continued to honor this commitment as a member of the VA, always striving to give back to fellow veterans.

After his time in the service, Lee’s career and talents flourished. Whether he was working with his hands in carpentry, tending to his garden, or simply fixing something that needed a careful touch, he did so with skill and patience. Lee approached every project as he did life—with quiet determination, humility, and a genuine desire to help.

Among his greatest joys was spending time camping, gardening, and building memories with his loved ones. Lee was, above all else, a kind and loving soul. Those who knew him best will forever remember the warmth and encouragement he gave—his steady presence a guiding force in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Lee is survived by his cherished wife, Jennie Hoover, who stood by his side through every season of life. His legacy continues through his daughters, Patricia Bryan (James), Linda Deeney (David), and Sharon Wardell (the late Thomas). Lee was a devoted grandfather to James Bryan Jr., Ashley Bramble (Christopher), Steven Bryan (Brittany), Nicole Wardell (Justin), and Tori Wardell (Keith), and his joy multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren: Rihanna, Emma, Eric, Madison, Hanna, Kennedy, Westin, and Camryn. He was predeceased by his parents & siblings. Each family member carries a piece of Lee’s gentle spirit in their hearts.

Lee’s life was a testament to generosity, strength, and unwavering love for family. The example he set will continue to inspire and guide those who loved him as they cherish his memory and strive to reflect the qualities he embodied every day.

Funeral service will be held at Wilde Funeral Home, Monday the 20th at 2pm with a viewing starting at 1pm until the time of service. May his memory be an eternal blessing to all who knew him.

My Life as a Sailor

I served in the US Navy from January 8, 1964 until September 21,1972. I served aboard 3 ships the USS Boxer which had been converted from a aircraft carrier to an amphibious assault ship which carried helicopters and used them to carry soldiers to battle. The second ship I was on was the USS New Jersey a battleship. We made 2 tours to Vietnam giving our troops gunfire support. The 16 inch guns on that ship could shoot a 2700 pound projectile (bullet) 27 miles The last ship I served on was the USS George K. McKenzie. On the McKenzie we were home ported in Yokosuka, Japan. From there we made several trips to Vietnam where we provided gunfire support to our troops. My last 2 years I served as a instructor at Great Lakes naval training center in Illinois. My life as a sailor.
