Genevieve A. VanderWaal

Parkesburg, PA

Genevieve A. VanderWaal, 90, of Parkesburg, PA passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Cimino and Mamie Catanio Cimino.

After graduating from Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School in Philadelphia, Genevieve attended Albert Einstein Medical Center, becoming a registered nurse. Her nursing career encompassed over 40 years, and included dialysis, staff nursing at Bryn Mawr Hospital, and home health nursing for Bayada. She left clinical nursing for a time, becoming a case manager for American International Group, She excelled at this and eventually rose to East coast Regional Manager.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Carmella, Marie, Rita, and Eleanor, and one brother, Samuel. She is survived by daughters Leslie Cureton (Jean) of West Chester, PA, Christina Bushnell of Reading, PA, Lisa D'Ascenzo of Parkesburg, PA and one son, George D'Ascenzo of Reading PA. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Samuel, Christopher, Laura, and Caroline, and one sister, Barbara Testa.

Genevieve was an avid homemaker and accomplished cook, who loved to entertain. Friends and family alike cherished her annual Christmas Eve dinner parties, which included the traditional Italian feast of the seven fishes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 3, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Norbert's Catholic Church, 6 Greenlawn Rd., Paoli, PA 19301. Visitation at the church from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Internment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Rd, Springfield, PA 19064.
