Gary Robert "Gutsy" Rutledge, Sr., 73, of Coatesville, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Penn Medicine Hospice Center in West Chester, PA. He was the husband of the late Joanne Blischke Rutledge and his first wife the late Linda Smith Rutledge. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Robert Rutledge and Marie Burton Rutledge.
Gary grew up in the community of Westwood, Valley Township. He was a 1966 graduate of the former S. Horace Scott High School in Coatesville. He was employed for 43 years by ArcelorMittal (formerly the Lukens Steel Company) of Coatesville.
He enjoyed traveling with family, taking several cruises and trips to exotic locations. He was a dedicated fan of both the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. All these activities paled in comparison to his enthusiasm for his grandchildren. He attended dance recitals, supported school fundraisers, and was a constant presence at Twin Valley’s athletic fields, never missing any of Alex’s practices or games. Pop Pop was always there to honor every milestone, birthday, or holiday. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and he was a Lifetime member of the West Caln Sportsmen's Club.
He is survived by one son Jason Rutledge and wife Pamela Muirhead Rutledge of West Nantmeal Township, daughter-in-law Sharon Stump Rutledge of New Holland, PA, son-in-law and daughter-in-law James Muirhead and Lauren Langella Muirhead of Staten Island, NY and five grandchildren; Jessica Rutledge, Alex Rutledge, Nicole Muirhead, Anthony (AJ) Muirhead and Sienna Muirhead. He was preceded in death by one son Gary Robert Rutledge, Jr.
