Edward B. Souders Sr., a devoted family man and respected professional in environmental management, construction, and consulting, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at his home in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on June 21, 1943, in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Edward’s life was marked by dedication both to his career and to his community. Edward was a devoted husband to Carol Souders for over 57 years and she was the light of his life,
A graduate of Conestoga High School in the class of 1962, Edward’s path led him through a meaningful career where he applied his talents and expertise to sectors crucial to the development and preservation of our environment. His work was characterized by a strong sense of responsibility and an enduring commitment to quality and sustainable practices.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Edward was a man of many interests and talents. He found joy in metal detecting, sketching, dancing, and singing, especially the melodies of doo wop, a genre that resonated deeply with his youthful spirit. His love for playing the guitar was matched by his skill in storytelling, through which he shared vivid recollections of his younger years. History held a special place in his heart, particularly the stories of the Civil War, evidencing his profound appreciation for the past and its lessons.
Edward was an active member of Pequea Baptist Church, where he found spiritual grounding and fellowship. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in all his relationships and pursuits.
He is survived by his brother David Souders and wife Janet as well as beloved children, LuAnn Thomas and her husband Paul Thomas Jr., Edward B. Souders Jr. and his wife Denise Souders, and Michelle Hoopes with her husband Jeffery Hoopes. Edward’s legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Bryan Thomas and his wife Katie Thomas; Raymond Thomas and his wife Hailey Thomas; Edward Chilcote; Austin Chilcote and his wife Emily Chilcote; Savannah Thomas and her fiancé Zach Robinson; Sierra Thomas; Nicholas Souders and his wife Kelsey Souders; Nicholas Hoopes; and Anna Hoopes. His family circle further extends to his great-grandchildren: Xavier Souders, Thomas Pheobe Wilson, Nicholas Souders Jr., Elliot Souders, and Cole Souders.
Edward’s life was one of warmth, dedication, and joy. His enduring love for his family, his commitment to his faith and profession, and his zest for life’s varied pleasures remain an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with respect and affection.
Service will be held on March 27, 2026 at the Wilde Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 10:00 am with a service to be held at 11:00 am.
