Obituary

Edward Emory Hammond Sr., "The Steamer", 69, of Parkesburg, Pa., died Sunday, May 20th at the Brandywine Hospital.  He was the son of the late Rev. Herbert C. Hammond, Sr. and Josephine P. Dickinson Hammond.

Edward was born in the Coatesville Hospital and lived in the Parkesburg area all of his life.  He graduated from Scott High School in Coatesville.  He often attended both the Brewer Memorial Baptist Church and the Enon Missionary Baptist Church.  Eddie was employed with the Diversified Printing Company for 30 years.  He belonged to the Parkesburg Fishing Club for many years and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Eddie also was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  He loved to dress and when he was in his clean-up gear, he seemed to add an extra dip to his step.  But most of all Eddie enjoyed good people and good fun!

He is survived by his beloved companion, Louise Smith, two sons, Edward Jr. and Darren (Pop) Hammond (Teresa) both of Lancaster.  Three daughters, Carmen and Crystal (Missy) Hammond both of Lancaster and Stephanie Folks of Atglen.  Three brothers, Ritchie Hammond of Baltimore and Lawrence and Arnold Hammond (Renee) both of Coatesville.  Three sisters, Maxine London and Julia Hammond both of Atglen and Denise Lavender (Alan) of Parkesburg.

Eddie had 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Hammond Jr. and Larry Hammond; three sisters, Marion Hammond, Francis Gray, and Loretta Lomax; and one grandson, Donte Hammond.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Mt. Zion Cemetery of Atglen.  The Viewing will be from 9 until 11 AM.
