Douglas A. Edwards

Douglas A. Edwards, a devoted family man, skilled tradesman, and cherished member of his community, suddenly passed away at home on May 30, 2026. Born on October 9, 1961, in Ephrata, Doug lived a life marked by dedication, integrity, and a deep love for his family and his Savior.

He attended Brick Lane Church in Elverson, PA. A 1979 graduate of Twin Valley High School, Doug carried forward a rich family tradition as a third-generation tree surgeon. Following the footsteps of his father, Doyle Sr., and grandfather Virgus, he owned and operated a tree trimming and removal business for 15 years. Even while managing this enterprise, Doug balanced a demanding career as a steelworker at Worthington Steel. Later in life, he dedicated 17 years as an environmental service employee at Mainline Health, exemplifying his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence in every role he undertook.

Doug had a remarkable talent for fixing things, a skill he began cultivating in his youth. As a teenager, if Doug wanted a car, he would have to get one from the junkyard and make it run, learning the art of engine repair. This talent became invaluable over the years, especially with the arrival of his grandchildren, for whom he lovingly maintained 4-wheelers and other equipment with a diligent hand.

An enthusiast of the outdoors and family gatherings, Doug treasured Sunday dinners filled with laughter and warmth. He found joy in fires burning in the chiminea, listening to music, riding motorcycles and 4-wheelers, and spending time at his cabin at Raystown. Boating and fishing were also among his favorite pastimes, reflecting his love for nature and simple pleasures. Known for his ability to refurbish and repair rather than replace, Doug’s practical wisdom in preserving what others might discard is a testament to his resourcefulness and thoughtful approach to life. In recent times, if he was not actively tinkering with some project, he could be found watching instructional videos on YouTube, ever eager to learn more.

Doug’s personality was defined by a great sense of humor, a willingness to help others, and a profound love for his family and faith. He was a devoted husband to Rita, with whom he was about to celebrate 40 years of marriage in December. Rita fondly remembered how Doug's love for her was unrivaled, the deepest earthly bond she ever knew. Their partnership was a cornerstone of his life. Additionally, he is survived by his beloved mother, Gertrude; his son Douglas Jr.; his siblings Doyle Jr.(Mamie), Dale (Kathy), Dwayne, Denise, Dana (Tammy), Darrin, and Dustin; son-in-law Nate; grandchildren Luke, Lizzy, Frida; many nephews, nieces as well and his cherished dog and loyal companion Jack.

Doug is mourned deeply by all who knew him, especially after the loss of his daughter Alicia and his father Doyle Sr. before him. Despite these losses, he remained a pillar of strength and kindness to his loved ones.

His family was Doug’s greatest accomplishment and pride. He cherished his grandchildren and took immense satisfaction in nurturing those close to him. Doug’s dedication and commitment were evident in everything he pursued; whether running his tree business or serving in his various jobs, he performed with unwavering diligence and care.

Doug entered the loving arms of his Savior after a good day spent with Rita, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, faith, and steadfast devotion. His presence will be deeply missed but warmly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
