Donald Stewart Black, 78, of Christiana, PA, died peacefully at his farm while surrounded by his loving family on July 8, 2026.
Don was born to Josh Lillard Black and Ethel Stewart Black of Cochranville, PA, on June 21, 1948 and later graduated from Octorara High School in 1966 and remained a lifelong resident of the area thereafter.
Don was a proud veteran, who served in the United States Army for 2 years, including a tour in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Don worked as a service manager for Somat corporation for many memorable years and later he leveraged his unique combination of intelligence, craftmanship & drive to start his own plumbing and heating business.
He loved spending time on his farm with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Joanne, daughters; Laura Branca (Mike) of Cochranvile, PA , Amy Black of Strasburg, PA, Sarah Black Diperio (Dominic) of Bear, DE, and son; Donald Black Jr. of Parkville, MD. Additionally, 7 grandchildren; Jordyn Wallace, Evan Wallace, Brenna Koch, Michael Fehrle, Matthew Fehrle, Adelynne Black, Benjamin Black, and 3 great grandchildren; Aaron Jackson Jr., Noah Jackson, and Rosalee Jackson.
Don is also survived by his sisters, Betty Armentrout, Sue Melton (Sean), and brothers, Harold Black (Heide) and Jesse Black (Terrie), as well as many nieces & nephews. Don was preceded in death by sister, Ruth McManus and his parents.
Visitation will take place at Wilde's Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21 at 10 am, with a memorial service at 11am, and internment to follow shortly after.
