David Michael Aberts, 66, of Thorndale, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
David will be remembered for his fun spirit, leadership, singing, dancing, and the unconditional love he had for his wife of 38 years, Deborah Aberts. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, and adventure—they were true soulmates who never missed a chance to dance.
David’s firefighting career began at just 14 years old, when he joined the Thorndale Fire Company as a junior firefighter. Through hard work, dedication, and leadership, he rose through the ranks and proudly served as Fire Chief from 1995 to 2010. His commitment to his community and fellow firefighters left a lasting legacy that will be remembered for generations.
David served as a career firefighter with the Coatesville Fire Department for 30 years, retiring in 2018. He also worked at the Brandywine YMCA, ACR Machine Shop, and held other jobs where he made lasting friendships and an impact through his dedication and work ethic.
When David retired, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to Bethany Beach, his favorite place on earth. He loved spending his days with the love of his life, fishing, relaxing on his pontoon, and enjoying the peace of the water—because for him, the water was life.
David was passionate about sports throughout his life. He loved playing softball when he was younger and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, rarely missing a game. He also played pool for many years, including traveling to Las Vegas to play in tournaments.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah, his daughters Lindsey L. Groff (PJ Groff) and Karrine M. Manstrelli (David Manstrelli), and his cherished grandchildren Makenna, Alivia, Chase and Izabella, who brought endless joy to his life. He is also survived by his mother Ann M. Aberts; his father Curtis Aberts and stepmother Judy Aberts; his sisters DeeDee Barrage (Rob Barrage), Nancy Castellano (Steve Castellano), along with several nieces and nephews and their children. He truly was the patriarch of his family.
He was preceded in death by his brother C. Scott Aberts and stepfather George Daniels.
David will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him. To know him was to love him; there will never be another like him.
