Obituary

Bonnie Jean Hughes, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her bedside on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. She shared 54 years of marriage with her husband, Robert J. Hughes.

Bonnie was born in Kentucky and grew up in Baltimore as the daughter of the late Lona Bolling. After high school, Bonnie enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and later serving at Walter Reed Medical Center as an Army Medical Corpsman. During her time there, she met her husband, Robert, and they began building their life together, welcoming their first son, Mark, while she continued serving in the Army Reserves. After completing her enlistment, they eventually settled in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, where they welcomed their second son, Jason.

Bonnie devoted her life to her family, spending her children's younger years as a stay-at-home mother before returning to work in the pharmaceutical industry as a production line specialist until her retirement.

She was especially devoted to her grandchildren. If they had a game, an event, or something worth celebrating, she was there or asking about it. What mattered to them mattered to her, and she made sure they knew it.

In her later years, Bonnie developed a love for the Philadelphia Phillies and enjoyed keeping up with games. She never missed an opportunity to talk about the Phils. She even got to see them play in person for the first time this past year, an event she truly enjoyed with her family.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Robert J. Hughes; her sons, Mark and Jason Hughes; daughters-in-law, Michele, and Angela, and her grandchildren, Kristin Ella, Morgan Hughes, Jack, and Joseph Hughes. She is also survived by her siblings, Red, Stella, and Henry.

She was predeceased by her mother, Lona Bolling, and her siblings, Derondia Sue, Dodi, Jack, Darrell, Earl, and Beauford.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bonnie's memory to the Reggie White Sleep Disorders Research and Education Foundation (reggiewhitefoundation.org).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 3:00 PM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, PA, with visitation prior from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
