Vernon "Whitey" White, 81, of Christiana, passed away on Sunday, September 7th, 2014.  He was the widower of the late Georgia Lee Morris White, who passed away in 2006.  

Born in Atglen, Vernon was the son of the late Harriet (Smith) and Roy F. White Sr.  An area resident his entire life, he was a 1951 graduate of Scott High School.  Vernon served honorably in the Army from 1954 to 1957.  

He retired from Lukens Steel, where he worked as a Plate Inspector.  

He was a member of the Mt. Zion AME Church of Atglen where he was  member of the men's choir. He was also a member of the JB Hill Chorus. Vernon was an avid fisherman and he was well known for his meticulous care of his automobiles.  

He is survived by his three children: Vernon "Skip" Myers of Rio Vista, Ca., Larry Morris, husband of Tela, of Suffolk, Va., and Wayne Morris, husband of Rochelle, of Lacey, Wa.; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and two siblings, Dorothy Denson of Parkesburg and Elsworth White of Atglen.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Harold, Donald, Roy Jr., Vera, Beatrice and Edna.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 10th at 11 AM at the Mt. Zion AME Church, 404 Zion Hill Rd, Atglen, PA 19310, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.  Visitation is from 9 until 11 PM.

Condolences

I remeber when my Uncle John went to Harrison House he didnt like it at all. But it was because of a faithful friend Mr. Vernon White he felt at home. Mr. Vernon was in a wheel chair and had to get him self over there and he would us that Good leg and pull him self all the way. They would sit and talk about old time he was a God sent and I think him for those time and praise God for him. May he Rest Easy in Paradise with a God he loved so much R.I.P Mr. Vernon.
