Joann Moretz Scott, 85, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 24, 2023. She passed away at Merrill Gardens in West Chester, PA. Joann was the widow of the late Earl B. Scott who died in 2020. They had shared 61 years of marriage. She was the daughter of the late William Emory and Jessie Howell Moretz. She was born on August 25, 1938, in War, WV. Joann was a Downingtown/Coatesville area resident for most of her life. She also lived in the Philadelphia, PA and Kannapolis, NC area for a portion of time in her childhood.

Joann graduated in 1956 from Horace Scott High School in Coatesville. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at Chemical Leaman Company in Downingtown. She moved to El Paso, TX in 1959 to marry Earl Scott who was serving in the Army. She also worked for a time at Raytheon in El Paso, TX. Moving back to PA, Joann then stayed at home as a homemaker raising their small children. In 1973, she returned to the workforce as a secretary in the Dietary Department at Embreeville Center, Romansville, PA. After retiring from Embreeville, she went on to become the receptionist at Merrill Lynch in Exton.

Joann loved her family and is survived by her 3 children: Wendy Scott Webster, wife of Mark Webster (Glenmoore, PA); Cheryl Scott Brown, wife of Michael Brown (Downingtown, PA); and Steven E. Scott (Spring City, PA). Joann also adored her 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter: Zachary S. (Katy) Brown, David M. (Katie) Webster, Jonathan S. Webster, and Danielle J. Brown. Joann also enjoyed watching the antics of her 2 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters: Leroy and JoJo Brown and William and Eloise Webster. She was preceded in death by her beloved older sister Carolyn M. Spotts and 3 siblings Vivian, William and Johnnie who died in early childhood. She was also preceded in death by her half siblings which she loved to visit: Dorothy M. Childers, Edward Moretz, and Elizabeth M. Miller.

Joann was a member of Coatesville Bible Fellowship. She assisted with children’s Sunday School for a time and was a member of the Lifeliners and ABF2 Sunday School Classes as well as her Circle Group. She enjoyed attending Bible Studies and volunteering as needed to provide a home, supplies, food, or group supervision for Backyard Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed her high school friends as they played cards monthly for over 50 years. She planned annual trips to the shore for the family where family connections were solidified. After her children moved out, she initiated Sunday Family dinners where everyone was encouraged to attend. She was the tie that binds the family together.

She was greatly loved by her family and will be sorely missed until we meet again with Jesus in Heaven.

I will miss Joann.  We always enjoyed talking at the "1st Cousin's Reunions" for the Scott family.  She was always so sweet.  I am saddened that she's gone.
