Charles Lee Witherspoon, Sr., 76, of Coatesville, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Charles Bell and Lillian Witherspoon. He was raised by his late foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Brown in West Grove, PA.

He was a 1966 graduate of Avon Grove High School and went on to honorably serve our nation in the United States Army.

From a young age, he developed a lifelong connection with his brother James Witherspoon who passed away in March of 2023. They supported each other in every endeavor, from foster care, to careers and shared personal interests.

Charles was a car fanatic owning countless classic cars along with his beloved racer “Sweet Poison”. He spent his early years drag racing at Cecil County Dragway, along with a road race here and there for good measure.

When he wasn’t working Charles enjoyed bowling at Leisure lanes in Lancaster, talking shop to members of the Pennock’s Fiero group, watching Star Trek, and being with his family.

During his early career, he was employed by Culligan Water Company and later owned and operated his own business called Water Quality Network, Inc. Much like the care he provided to his beloved cars, he operated his business with the same enthusiasm and thoroughness. He was a man of his word, and integrity was the center piece of his business model.

He is survived by his son: Charles "CJ" Witherspoon, Jr, his wife Halli, along with his Granddaughter Lilah aka “Little one”. Additionally, he is survived by his beloved sister Geraldine Barton.

Charles is preceded in passing by his beloved brother James Witherspoon and sister Barbara.
