Anthony "Tony" John Russell Short, 84, of Christiana, PA, passed away at his home on Monday, December 19, 2022.  He is survived by his beloved wife Pamela Wiedemann whom he shared a beautiful journey for over 36 years.  Born in London, England, he was the son of the late Alfred and Marjorie Short.

Tony earned his master's degree from the London College of Technology and was employed as a mechanical engineer for West Code Manufacturing making equipment for public transportation vehicles.  He moved to the United States in his 20’s and was proud to become an American citizen in 1978.  He possessed a quick wit, a gentle strength, and a generous heart.

 Tony was an avid skier. He and his wife, Pam, met at Spring Mountain and Blue Mountain working on the ski patrol.  He also enjoyed soccer and was a fan of the Arsenal Club of the Premier League.  He was able to enjoy the World Cup finals before he passed and has instilled a love for the sport in both his son and grandchildren.  He loved dogs and helping his wife care for horses, building jumps for equestrian events.   His love of art and nature and all creatures great and small is something he passed on to his children at an early age and shared with many over the years.  One of his most favorite adventures was a trip to the Grand Canyon where he camped in the canyon and went white water rafting with his Pamela.

 Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sarah (James) Flanagan of Roswell GA,  his son Jason (Amy) Short of Limerick, PA, and grandchildren, Ryann and Mason Short.  He was preceded in death by a sister Francis Goodwin.

 A celebration of life ceremony will be held in the spring once the daffodils are in bloom for his family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html

Dear Pam,

We are so shocked and saddened to hear of Tony's passing. You had a wonderful life together.  I met Tony at PT for awhile last year, and we shared some laughs and stories together. He was always positive and had a smile. I hope your family and friends can help you through this sad time.

To Pam and Tony's children

So sorry to hear of Tony's passing. He was the last (of only two cousins) on my Father's side. That he took time to call me literally hours before his passing will always be something special that I shall remember. Tony was the first person to start teaching me to drive in about 1958. Using his Austin 7 named Belinda. I had to double de-clutch on every gear change! But I went on to drive for 64 years (thus far), all around the globe and without so much as a parking ticket! Tony moved to America but we always kept in touch. On one trip to where he then lived in PA, I wanted to buy one of these new things the called Personal Computers. Tony found a Tandy store which had one in stock and so I flew back with the computer come keyboard; memory system (a.k.a. cassette player); monitor and transformer to change voltage from British 220v to American110v. I was the first of all my friends to have a PC. If only I had kept it....

Phil and I are so sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. We remember the good old days on your farm by Springton Manor, and how hard Tony worked on fixing that barn. And who can forget the wild and fun dancing we did at the OVCTA parties when Phil’s bans was playing? We were so thrilled to see you both so happy at your horse farm in  Christiana, where we also had some great times. We’ll alway remember Tony for his quick wit, friendly smile and  genuine warmth. He was a treasure and will be greatly missed. Please keep us posted about his celebration of life.

I met Tony briefly when I had the chance to visit his and Pam’s  horse home property the early summer of 2006. I visited with my mom to see where a horse i cared about had spent the last years of his life. They were a lovely couple, you could sense their sweet, dedicated bond. They were both generous to have me visit and ask questions about Pip. Tony in particular was very considerately candid in a way I appreciated very much. He was kind and honest, - and funny! He lightened my sad heart. He showed me pictures of his riding my old horse in cross country jumping eventing. It restored some peace and faith that a kind man like that had ridden him with respect. I’m thankful for both of them, but wanted to share my thoughts about Tony as I just happened to come across news of his passing. God bless, rest in peace, and I thank him. Kara
