Dorothy L. Manley, 89, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, November 18th, 2021 under the care of Newport Meadows of Christiana.  She was the widow of Charles Manley, who passed away in 2005 after they had shared 56 years of marriage.  

Born in Sadsburyville, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Martha (Campbell) and Arthur Hess.  An area resident for most of her life, she had worked in the Baker Dept. of Pepperidge Farm for 17 years, retiring in 1986.  

Dorothy was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension of Parkesburg.

She was a member of The Rebekah’s of Cochranville and the Atglen, Parkesburg, and Cochranville Fire Co. Auxiliaries.  She enjoyed reading, listening to the Bible, Country Music, going to the casinos, and talking with her friends.

Dorothy was a family woman who loved her family and was a second Mom to many.  She was loved by all who came to know her.  

She is survived by her five children: Charles E. Manley, husband of Ida, of Huntington, Norma Toto of Atglen, Martha P. Manley of Lancaster, Beatrice Marino, wife of Steve, of Cochranville, and Ellen Myers, wife of Gregg, of Florida; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was predeceased by her six siblings, Arthur E. Hess, Jr., Emmanuel C. Hess, Mary Lapore, Patricia DeCarlo, Norman F. Hess, and Donna Froelich.

A private graveside service will take place at St. John's Episcopal Cemetery of Compass.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601

Sending my deepest sympathies to all.  I have so many fond memories at Aunt Dorothy’s farm swimming, playing with the animals, checking out Ellen, Martha & Be-Be’s cool bedrooms.  Even though I wasn’t a biological niece, she always treated as family. She was a sweetheart. RIP ❤️
