Marguerite (Peg) Martin, 91, of Highland Township, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021 in her home, with her family at her side. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late John Eaton and Ida Marguerite Scott. She shared 33 years of marriage with the late Robert J. Richardson, and 26 years of marriage with the late John W. Martin.

Peg graduated from Coatesville High School in the class of 1948. She was an excellent homemaker, and then worked as an Instructional Reading Aide in the Octorara School District for 20 years. She was very active in the community, donating her time to Meals on Wheels, and the Parkesburg Library Board where she served as Trustee for 11 years. Peg organized the Library Golf Tournament for many years. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Lady Niners at Moccasin Run Golf Club and a longtime member of the Coatesville Country Club.

Peg loved gardening. She was past President and Treasurer of the Sadsbury Garden Club. She enjoyed sitting on her porch and watching the birds, particularly hummingbirds.

She was a lifelong member of Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, was a member of the Women’s Association, Prayer Chain, and handled the Scrapbook for the church.

Most of all, Peg loved her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed vacationing with them every summer in Stone Harbor / Avalon for over 50 years.

Peg is survived by two children; Linda Handy (Bill), Thomas Richardson (Susan), five grandchildren, Laurie Sarosi (Chuck), Carrie Avery (Rob), Billy Handy (Megan), Tyler Richardson (Ruthann), and Lisa Richardson, seven great-grandchildren; Ethan, Logan, Colin Sarosi, Ryleah, and Shepard Avery and Evelyn and Jackson Richardson and
her close-knit siblings; Ruth Elaine Nunn, Edward E. Scott, and Barbara S. Huston.
Special thanks to the Penn Medicine Hospice Team for exceptional care.

Prayers of sympathy to the entire family for the loss of Peg.  I know what loss does to a family, and I grieve with you all.  But I know Peg will enjoy meeting her Lord following a very active life on this earth.  So sorry I am unable to attend services on Friday, but my thoughts are with you.  Since I am most familiar with Ruth Elaine, Edward and Barb, please give them my sincerest condolences as well.        Frank (Skip) Lammey

I have many wonderful memories of the time I spent with Peggy at Octorara. She was my teacher’s aide beginning at the Cochranville school and then the elementary school. She was kind to the children, nice to everyone and a big help to me and my classes. She will be missed.
