89 Years
Parkesburg, Pennsylvania

Thaddeus W. "Bud" Wilde was born March 2, 1931 to James William Wilde and Ruth Kirk Wilde in Parkesburg PA. He graduated from Parkesburg High School in 1949 and participated in band, basketball, assistant manager for the baseball team, and played in various roles in the school plays.  He went to Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and graduated in 1953.  He served two years of apprenticeship at the Wilde Funeral Home and became the 4th generation of Wilde funeral directors, which dates back to the late 1840s.

He married Shirley Conover Wilde in 1954 and had three children Billy and wife Jean of Atglen, Betsy Benner and husband Bob of Gap, and Cathy Christ and husband Carey of Parkesburg.  Shirley died February 23, 1992. Bud remarried Suzanne Miller Wilde.  Bud has nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He also has two step children; Mary Pat Barton and husband Tom of Newark, DE and Michael Gain and wife Alison of New Hartford, Conn. and three step grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his three siblings, Dorcas Ryan, James K. Wilde and William S. Wilde and one stepson, John Gain.

Bud was a member of Parkesburg Methodist Church and former member of Parkesburg Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, elder, and trustee. He had been a member of The Brandywine Goddard Masonic Lodge F & AM for 67 years.  He served on the Official Board of the Chester County Blind Association and the Parkesburg Centennial Committee in 1972.

Bud joined the Parkesburg Fire Company at the age of 14 as a Junior Fireman.  He became Fire Chief from 1961 - 1963.  He also served as the Civil Service Director at that time. He served as one of the honorary Co-Chairs for the Capital Campaign Committee in 2019. He was awarded Honorary Life Membership.

He was awarded The Parent Teacher Association Award of the Parkesburg School.  He was also awarded The Four Chaplain's Award.

He became a member of the Parkesburg Lions Club May 1, 1977 and later served as President.  He also served on numerous committees during his membership and in February of this year he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

One of Bud's greatest pleasures was helping families in their time of need.  The love that he gave to the community in Parkesburg was reciprocated in kind by all who met him.

All his life he enjoyed antique automobiles but his greatest pleasure was his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  His family will remember him for his generosity, love, and his ability to embellish stories, especially the ones he told his grandchildren.  His generosity to those he loved is his legacy.

Funeral services will be private for his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bud's memory to SEPTBA, 601 Glen Run Drive, Atglen, PA 19310 in support of the restoration project to rebuild the 1917 Parkesburg Baseball Field and stands.

To the entire Wilde family,

Our community is mourning. Mr. Wilde was a one of a kind. He always made me smile. Such a kind, compassionate man who always thought of others. My last conversation with him was a couple weeks ago when he told me to be sure to drive past his house with the kids because Santa was in the window.
I will miss seeing him at the pharmacy. I loved him dearly.
My thoughts and prayers are with all you during this time. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Dear Billy & Jean, Betsy & Bob, Cathy & Carey and the rest of the Wilde family:  Sending my deepest sympathy in the passing of your Dad.  I know how much he loved all of you and you will miss him dearly!  Bud always made attending funerals a little easier with hugs and a kiss.  I'll never forget while working at the Social Security Office in West Chester--when I heard "Hi, Janie" from the front of the office--there stands your Dad and Uncle Jim who were accompanying a widow applying for her benefits.  They were so kind. I will miss Bud but know I will see him again in Heaven.  Much love to you all.   Jane

A man everyone loved.  I never heard anyone say a bad thing about him.  He was with you at the worst time of your life but when you left him you felt so much better.  He had a way to calm and relax you during a stressful time.  Out in public he was a fun guy and always remembered you, he had a coffee gang back in the 80's and you could find them in Turkey Hill, Carmen's Restaurant and other local establishments laughing and pranking each other.  A big piece of Parkesburg is gone...RIP Bud.

Growing up in Parkesburg, Jim and Bud Wilde had a profound influence on me. They seemed to always have a smile on their faces and a wise or kind word for all....even just a kid like me. I always thought that was especially remarkable given the fact that they spent their lives helping people get through the sadness of losing someone close to them. They encouraged me when I was selling seeds and cards door to door as an 8-10 year old. That encouragement led to a lot of confidence and, ultimately, success in my life. In 2009 they helped our family get through the loss of my Dad making his funeral a proper goodbye and saying and doing just what we needed to get through a tough day. It is rare that you can say the world is deminished by the loss of one person but in the case of Bud Wilde that would be true especially to the residents of Parkesburg where even in death he is still giving by asking for donations to rebuild a ball field for the town in lieu of flowers. I will always remember and treasure Bud Wilde!

To the Wilde family we extend our most sincere sympathy during the loss of Bud. As not only your family mourns the entire community knows a sense of real loss. However we can take some solace knowing that Bud's ability to make the unbearable somehow bearable, that feeling that you were just talking with an old friend has been imparted to his heirs to our great benefit.

Growing up the street from the Wilde's Funeral Home has left me with a lot of good memories. Both Jim and Bud were icons of the community and never failed in that role. Bud would always tease you and make you laugh in a friendly and entertaining way. I remember warm summer nights talking with him on the porch or seeing him in the back yard keeping it so well groomed. He had a real personality. He and Joe Young were good friends and I remember him trying to comfort me graveside when I lost my father as a young boy. I will not forget that. I am sorry for your family's loss. He was exceptional on many levels.

To The Entire Wilde Family.  We are saddened to hear of your Loss.  It's very hard to cope with this, as we will not be seeing Bud again here on earth, but be certain, we will meet again in Heaven.  Bud was so loving, kind, thoughtful and always had a smile and comforting words to everyone.  The hugs and kisses will be missed, but will never forget them.  Bud was "The Best" inside and out. He also could be full of laughter at times.  Everyone that knew Bud loved him dearly and He loved them and knew their names.  Bud will live in our hearts forever.  May God Bless The Wilde Family thru  their loss, and may it bring some measure of comfort and relief to know that sympathetic thoughts and Prayers are with them always.  We will also be  driving by Bud's house this week to see Santa in the window.                RIP-BUD

My heart goes out to his family.

He was such a kind and wonderful person. He buried 2 if my husbands. Showed so much compassion when you experienced a loss.

I will always cherish the times I met with him Art Keen And Vince Reed for coffee at Carmen's. I worked across the street at the time.

One day while I was struggling to parallel park. I finely got my car in the space. I got out of my car and I heard this cheering and clapping. There they were across the street, Bud, Art and Vince. He never let me live that down.

He will be dearly missed. But his memories will live forever in out hearts.

There is not much left to say about But Wilde, that has not already been said.  To the Elvin and Thompson family, he was a man of compassion and love for everyone who walked through the door.  He never failed to give hugs and kisses, know your name and always asked about the family.  He would have stories also about members who had passed on.  His comford was part of the healing proscess.  I could go on but won't.  Our final words will be that Bud set a high standard and he was a Godly man.  We were honored and blessed to have known him.

It is impossible for me to think of Mr. Wilde without him having a smile on his face.  During the very difficult times of the passing of our family members, most recently my much loved cousin Lisa Devlin, he made every one around him feel better.  Seeing him was like being embraced iin a warm and caring hug and the entire communtiy is dimmed a bit by his passing.  I moved to Texas from Parkesburg more than 25 years ago but he still remembered me as one of the "Butler girls".  I don't know how he did it but he was able to recall a story about everyone.  I'm sure that you all have many, many stories that you created with him and I hope that all of your wonderful memories give you comfort as you move forward.

Thinking of all of you, Kim Butler Hieber

I knew Bud as a Parkesburg Lion from the time my father would take me as a young boy to special events in Parkesburg. Whether it was the Soap Box Derbies, broom sales or the fairs, I remember him being there.

I regularly would see him at my church for funerals. His smile, positive attitude, and demeanor aided those who were suffering from the loss of a dear one. It seemed to me he always had a chuckle when he spoke and always enjoyed talking about Parkesburg.

The last time I spent time with Bud was in a Parkesburg parade when I rode with him in his classic car. During the ride, he shared with me his outlook on changes he perceived in today’s world and specifically Parkesburg. His love for the community was evident in all that he did.

My deepest sympathy to the Wilde family.

I will miss Bud for his kindness and compassion, his smile and hugs, the twinkle in his eyes when he spoke to you. He made me feel right at home when I moved to Parkesburg 30 years ago, and greeted me like an instant friend. 30 years later, I still looked for him when I drove through town to wave or stop and have a chat. He had a gift for making people feel cared for and he had all the time in the world to listen when you needed to talk. Thank You Parkesburg for honoring this special man with a Bud Wilde Day.
