William E. McGinnis, 89, of Neffsville, formerly of Ephrata and Parkesburg, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Lancashire Hall. He was husband of the late Sarah B. McGinnis who died in 1999. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late William E. and Elizabeth McGinnis, Sr. Bill served honorably in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 during WWII in the Pacific Theater with the 897th Signal Co. He was employed most of his life by the Borough of Parkesburg.


Bill was a member of the Parkesburg United Methodist Church, Past Commander, Chaplain and life member of the Parkesburg VFW Post #4480, honorary life member of the Parkesburg Fire Company and member of the Ephrata VFW. He also served on the VFW Chester County Council from 1970 to 1971.


He is survived by one daughter Sally J., wife of Leon Martzall of New Holland, two step sons; Curtis Aberts and wife Judy of Spring City and Barry Aberts and wife Doris of Coatesville, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by two siblings; Donald McGinnis and Gail Rodgers.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, followed by interment at the Glen Run Cemetery, Atglen, PA. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing from 10 to 11:00 am.

Bill(Pop) was a very kind and loving special "Step Father-in-law" to me for many years. I will cherish the good memories of him forever.

I have very fond memories of spending time at my grandmom and pop-pops house with my dad as a kid!! He was a great father and pop-pop :)!! As hard as it is to see him go, since hes my last grandparent, hes in a better place now with grandmom!! He will always be "Parkesburgs" trash man to all that knew and loved him!!!! We love you pop-pop!!!!

Deepest sympathy in the loss of your dad.
The streets of Parkesburg were never the same after the good ones retired.
Bill & Sarah are now together in heaven.
They both loved the Parkesburg United Methodist Church and the Parkesburg community. My how things have changed over the years.
