87 Years
Ephrata, Pennsylvania

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Albert James Hanna, Jr., 87, of Ephrata. Albert was our loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend; his absence is greatly felt by all whose lives he touched. On Friday, January 21, 2022, he left us peacefully at his home, surrounded by the family he so greatly adored.

Albert was born in Modena, PA on December 28, 1934, the son of the late Albert J. Hanna, Sr and Sylvia Trimble Hanna Haines, and raised in Coatesville where he resided most of his life. He proudly served in the United States Army National Guard from 1954 to 1957 and as a Chester County police officer for many years. Prior to retirement he was employed by International Mill Service in Coatesville, PA.  Albert was the beloved husband of Joan A. McCulley Hanna with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

Albert is survived by, in addition to his wife, four children: James Hanna husband of Judy of Gordon, PA, Colleen J. Rettew wife of Andrew, Coatesville, Linda I. Linderman (who he has resided with the last 6 years) wife of John, Ephrata and Albert L. Hanna of Gordon. 12 grandchildren: Andrew Vandegriff Jr., Joanna Vandegriff, James Hanna, John Linderman, Amanda (Linderman) Bathurst, Charlie Hanna, Kyle Hanna, Andrea (Hanna) Ross, Rachel Hanna, Alison Hanna, Albert Hanna and Leah Rettew, as well as 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Jane Townsend and Shirley Collins.

Albert lived a full life as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and a dedicated employee. He led his family as a Christian man, and was a member of Pomeroy Baptist Church in Pomeroy, PA. Al was an avid hunter, he loved being outdoors and spending time at his cabin in Potter County. Most of all he loved his family and friends. The values he instilled in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have served them well as they navigate the complexities of life. He will always be remembered as an honorable, loving man who led by example, and although he will be desperately missed, we find peace and comfort in knowing that he is free with the Lord.

We only part, to meet again.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg, PA. Online condolences may be posted at www.wildefuneralhome.com
