Stephen Murphy passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Stephen Murphy was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania in 1950 and was the son of Joseph and Josephine Murphy.  Stephen was a dedicated lifelong member of the Coatesville community.  He worked at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation and was a proud member of the United Steelworkers union for twenty years.  After leaving Allegheny Ludlum he worked at The Klein Company and most recently Kendal-Crosslands Communities as the Kendal master electrician until his retirement in 2014.

He was an avid reader his entire life and enjoyed cooking.  He also enjoyed house-boating with his family and traveling to Key West. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with his family watching Bonanza, The Rifleman, Live PD and Saturday Night Live.

Stephen Murphy is survived by his loving nuclear family; his wife of 46 years Kathleen (Kay) Murphy, his three children, Joseph (Joe) Murphy, Kathleen (Kathy) Mest, and John Murphy.  He is also survived by his older brother Jim Murphy, his Sister-in-law Pat Murphy, his brother-in-law Ernie Heidelbaugh, his daughter-in-law Sarah Price-Murphy, his son-in-law Eric Mest and multiple nieces and nephews.  He was also a loving granddad to his three adoring grandchildren; Taylor Murphy, Cecelia Murphy, and Katie Mest.  He retired a champion of the states game against his granddaughter, Taylor Murphy. He was a giant of a grandad to his granddaughter Cecelia who enjoyed when he lifted her high up on top of the refrigerator to sit.  His granddaughter Katie enjoyed visiting Granddad and reading and playing games with him. He is also loved posthumously by his older sisters Patricia (Pat) Heidelbaugh and Kay Thompson.

He will be missed by all.  We love you Stephen Murphy and you will live in all of our hearts forever!

The memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 8th at 11 AM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, Pa., followed by interment at St. Malachi Catholic Cemetery.  A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 until 11 AM. Steve....never forgotten!  Haven't seen him since long, long ago!  Lived nearby me off of 8th Avenue .....grew up in early years, together ........He was always quiet, yet, as I've just read again ... directed to do something very special with his life!   Though having lost contact, I am deeply saddened today to read of his passing!  God bless all his loving family .... Class of '68

People come and go in life. Steve was one of those people for me. As kids in Coatesville we grew up maybe 90 seconds ( 400 feet ) from each other. Steve was at 67 Palmer Ave and I at 32 South 8th Ave. I could see the Murphy home from our back porch. Both of us being born in 1950, we went through Terry School together. I have my class pictures year by year and Steve is in some of them with me. We played some after school sports together in the Nazarene Church Yard right next to the Murphy home and visited in each other's home. Our friendship at that time was certainly supported by Steve's mother Josephine and my mom Sara. My mom considered Mrs. Murphy to be probably her very best friend at that time. As kids Steve,my sister Jean and myself along with our mothers would walk into downtown Coatesville on Saturday mornings to shop. During Lent we were gently persuaded to attend Stations of the Cross at St Cecelia's at 3.30PM on Friday afternoons. As a kid I remember Patsy baby sitting us and also ironing clothes for my mom on Tuesdays as Patsy listened to the radio in our basement. Jim, Steve's brother, and my brother Sam were friends and went to school together through the fifties and early sixties. Our families were connected for such a long time but things change, kids get married, people move away, illness and death happen. I cannot remember the last time that Steve and I stood in front of one another and had a conversation. But I do know this I have a bunch of great memories of those years and the entire Murphy family will always be a big part of my childhood.         J.John Filoromo

I worked with Steve at Kendal and got to know him well though the years he shared his expert electrical knowledge and beyond there. Steve was dedicated and passionate in his daily efforts but never without bringing along his jolly and subtle humor to help the days at work flow by with a smile. I enjoyed knowing Steve and hearing stories of his family, travels, and life experiences. Stay strong and carry on family never losing sight of how Steve lived with a chuckle and a smile every day.

It has been many years since we last spoke but you will always be in my memory. You were always a great conversationalist and a very interesting person to have a chat with. I was very sad to hear of your passing but also glad that I knew you. We had some great times together that time cannot erase. May your family find some peace in the fact that you made everyone who knew you have a good time. You were a good friend.
