39 Years
Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Michael D. Sampson, 39, of Lancaster, passed away at his home on Monday, January 7, 2019. He was the husband of Klete C. Griffin with whom he shared nearly 15 years, the past four and a half in marriage.  Born in Coatesville, PA he was the son of Walter D. and Judith L. Nitzenberger Sampson of Christiana, PA.

Michael was an area resident all his life and a 1999 graduate of the Octorara High School. After high school he continued his education at the Center for The Arts and Technology Brandywine Campus graduating in 2002 as an LPN. He was dedicated to his patients and highly regarded by his co-workers for the past 16 years at Harrison Senior Living in Christiana, PA. Michael was a fantastic nurse.

Michael had many friends at Bush River Yacht Club on the Chesapeake Bay, where he often spent summer weekends boating with Klete aboard their boat the Felony 1.

Michael loved large American automobiles, especially Cadillacs and Lincolns. He spent hours tinkering with and maintaining his “toys” in the garage. He gained this mechanical aptitude from helping his Father work on cars when he was a teenager.

A true history buff, Michael enjoyed watching historical documentaries, visiting museums and exploring antique shops near and far. He was particularly intrigued by the World War II era.

Michael was a loving son and brother, who enjoyed a very close relationship with his family. Mike loved animals, especially his and Klete’s Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Bernie and Elton. He was also extremely attached to the many cats who lived with Walt, Judy, and Andrea.

Klete loved and adored Michael and the years of wonderful times they had together. Michael was such a kind and caring husband. He will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

He is survived, in addition to his husband and parents, by his sister Andrea N. Sampson of Christiana and her fiance John Krempa, Jr. of Coatesville, his maternal grandmother Geraldine Nitzenberger of Parkesburg, paternal grandmother Jean Winchester of West Chester, PA, his in-laws, Melvin C. and Sylvia J. Griffin of Port St Lucie, FL, sister-in-law Kara L. Johnson and nephew Cayson M. Johnson of Islamorada, FL. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather Stanley Sampson and maternal grandfather William Nitzenberger.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA with visitation from 11:30 to 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Pennsylvania SPCA Lancaster Center, 848 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603.

Dear Klete, Walt, Judy and Andrea,

The boys and I are extremely saddened by the Michaels' passing. I thought Klete, and you described him perfectly. I will always think of him with that big smile when he was just a boy. His love for anything mechanical that he could take apart and put back together. That big beautiful smile in the photos with his Corkys (babies). Michael will always be remembered with Love in our family.

Thank you Klete, for Loving him and providing much happiness in his life. What a precious gift.

With a loving heart to the Sampson family, my heart is with you.

My condolences to Klete and all of Michael’s family, friends and coworkers. I am so very sorry for your loss.  Michael was a genuinely kind and gentle soul. I hope and pray for God to help ease your sorrow and comfort you all. Please take comfort in knowing how amazing and loved he was. I worked with him for a few years at Harrison and I will never forget him. He always brought many smiles and laughs and was always willing to help and all his residents simply adored him. I always looked forward to giving him report at work as he would make me laugh and would always help me if I had any questions or if I didn’t understand something, Michael wouldn’t hesitate to help and explain things to me. He was so so intelligent and I always admired that. Rest In Peace Michael, I love you, I miss you my friend.
