Betty E. Smith, 93, of Parkesburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care of Mt. Joy, PA.  She was the widow of the late Samuel E. Smith, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.  

Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Josephine (Powell) and Samuel Mellinger.  An area resident her entire life, she worked at the former Coatesville Hospital.

Betty was a member of the Parkesburg Baptist Church.

She is survived by her three children: Kenneth Smith, husband of Glenda, of Willow Street, Patricia Sharp, wife of Smedley, of Coatesville, and Nancy Ballard of Casselberry, Fl.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and six great, great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Hazel Townsend, wife of William, of Cochranville, Wayne Mellinger, husband of Barbara, of Parkesburg, Doris Meredith of Parkesburg, and Ruth Johnson of Modena. 

She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda, and son, David.

The Funeral Service will be held on May 29th (a Tuesday) at 11 AM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery of East Fallowfield.  The viewing will be from 10 to 11 AM.

I did not know Ms Betty Smith, but heard such wonderful things about her.  She loved God and cared deeply for her family and her home.  I know she will be missed by her family and friends, but she is with the Lord and he is taking care of her.

Aunt Betty,

I met betty when i was 8! Was best friends with linda (and kenny and david were like brothers)
Betty was like a,second mom to me back then and if i was not home i would be at the smiths!
I also got to work with betty at the coatesville hospital.
A very hard working,caring,lady who gave so much!

Nancy, Pat and Kenny, Kathy and I wish to send our deepest sympathy in the passing of your Mother.

She will be greatly missed, She and Uncle Sam were my favorite Aunt & Uncle. I will always remember

the times we had when we would visit them. I will truly miss talking to her on the phone and the visits

that Kathy and I spent with her at her home. We love you Aunt Betty, and will miss you very much. We

will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Mommom Your were our Rock.  You and Poppop were always there for us through everything!!!  I cannot be more thankful or grateful that I had such the privilege of having you as my Grandmother, you are hands down the BEST!!!  I will never forget you, you will Always be in my heart.  I whole heartedly know that you are with Jesus Our Saviour now and that right there just fills me with Joy!!!  I Will see you again someday, so be prepared for The BIGGEST, LONGEST Hug ever!!!  Love your Granddaughter Kim❤️

Dear Pat and Family,

I was so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was such a sweet lady. I loved to visit her and talk about the good times when we worked at the hospital.

She was liked by many and will be missed. She was a hard working lady!!
