Paul Steven "Steve" Wolfe, 68, of Furlong, PA, passed away at the Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown, PA on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Steve was born on December 9, 1949 in Coatesville, PA to Paul Laverne Wolfe and Doris Virginia Gable Wolfe. He was a 1967 graduate of the Octorara High School.

Steve was a romantic at heart and displayed that in his many talents. He was a singer, songwriter, an accomplished guitarist, and a championship drummer in high school. He opened for many well-known acts in the Philadelphia area with his own songs to good reviews. The “Flaming Caucasions”, one of WMMR's house bands, “Steve Wolfe and the Secret” and “Crazy Heart” were a few of the bands in which he played during the 70's and 80's. Whether singing “Wooly Bully” to a large crowd or “Froggy Went a' Courtin” to his great-niece, Maddie, his performances were enjoyed by all. Most recently his creative talent turned to poetry, which included publishing a book entitled “Scars.”

His love was music, but he also enjoyed his years working as a cab driver. More recently, he was employed for 22 years as a Piano Tuner in the Southeastern PA area before retiring.

He is survived by his partner, Jan McCloud, who is also a Piano Tuner and musician.

Also surviving are his brothers, Douglas L. Wolfe, of Jensen Beach, FL and Michael E. Wolfe (wife, Deb) of Christiana, PA, his god-daughter, Hannah Fader, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He enjoyed them all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Brian J. Wolfe and one niece Morgan E. Wolfe .

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main Street, Parkesburg, PA at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Wolfe officiating. Visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Chandler House Hospice, 99 Barclay St. Newtown, PA 18940.

Steve was a wonderful person and the best friend anyone could ever have.  Every time I made the trip home Steve made sure he stopped by to catch up.  While I was gone in Hawaii and Japan Steve would visit my mother to see how she was doing.  He was as talented a musician as you would ever find but also humble, never bragging.  My condolences to his family and friends.  But Steve left so many memories he will not be forgotten any time soon.

Once I graduated from Octorara High I moved away never to truly return. I haven’t seen Steve since high school but have thought of him often. When we were kids growing up in Parkesburg we played baseball, football or some other sport almost every day. Steve was a good friend, a good sport and someone who always gave his best whether in sports or just being a friend.  He did not really ever give any effort but his best. That led to him being a great musician but more importantly a great friend. His memory still brings a smile to my face after years apart. What better thing  can a person do in life than leave a lasting, positive impression.  I’m sure many out there are better for having had Steve in their life! You will be missed Steve!

I am sincerely sorry that Steve is no longer with us...I lost track of Steve, as we all do with our High School friends...I remember how talented he was...all I know is...that man could play the drums! My sincere sympathies to his family...RIP Steve .

I go way back with Steve and have so many memories, but the ones that really stick with me are not the music ones.  I go back to playing baseball in the farmer's field at the corner of Limestone and Lower Valley Road.  Those pick-up games with all the boys from the South side of town were so special.  Playing ping pong in the basement on fourth avenue is also a special memory for me.  Of course, on the road with Mickey and Steve in the band was great.  I will also always hold the memory of the last time I got to spend an afternoon with Steve when he got out of the hospital a few months back.  Even though it was hard to keep in personal contact after he lived a distance away, it was clear our bonds were still in tact.  I also remember working together at Embreeville State Hospital and riding to work together in my VW Bug.  We had some great times and WE will all miss him.  Love to you all.

I played music with "Wolfie" in 1973-1975 in New Hampshire.   My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.  I met Mickey and his folks once when they came to visit, and they were a very loving family.  Mickey brought up a copy of "Band on the Run" for his big brother.   Wolfie was an inspirational musician and although we were a "top forty" club band, he wrote great songs that totally fit the style and filled the dance floor.    His good friend, Steve Lachman was in the band as well.   When we all migrated back south we stayed in contact for a little while and then lost touch, but the memories of our youthful short time together will always bring a smile.... His song " Long Way To Nowhere" is playing in my head right now and the dancefloor at Dimitris is hopping...

Scott,

Thank you for your comments. I have not been replying to comments but having seen yours I just wanted to say what a special time it seemed to be for Steve to play music with you in New Hampshire. Your name came up often in throughout the years. I was digging through old albums for music to use during the service and came across an album you had recorded. I've not yet listened to it - I wasn't aware of it's existence. Are you still active in the field of music?

Hi Mick,

I formed the Sin City Band right after Joshua Tree broke up and we are still together and playing.   I was doing a gig with Chuck Whiteman this week which is how I heard about Steve.   He was a special person in my life and I also thought of him often.   I am so sorry we lost touch and I am hoping to come on Sunday.   I have a gig in Chadds Ford that afternoon so I will see how the timing works, but I would love to be there.

Again my condolences,

Scott

I went through high school with Steve. I have never forgotten him and when I heard of his passing, I just had to sit and take that in for a few minutes.  Besides being a good looking guy, I remember him mostly from the senior band and his masterful playing of the drum and the drum "solo" he played at one of our concerts.  He did it so easily and so perfectly!  He had a very unassuming personality and that is what I liked about him. I won't forget Steve. May you Rest In Peace my friend.

I'm very sorry to hear this sad news of Steve's passing. I knew Steve and his brother Mickey at OHS High School back in the 60's. Steve was 4 years older than me and Mickey was a little younger. Steve and Mickey and I used to get together and sing 3 part harmony in the basement of their family home in Parkesburg, songs like "If I Fell", "Chains", "This Boy" and many others. It was a lot of fun and a was a magical, inspiring time in the history of music. Then years later I remet Steve in Philadelphia when I moved back to the area after college in the mid-70's. I did sound for his band Crazy Heart in Cape May for a few dates in maybe 1977 or 1978, and later I also recorded his band Secret Service at an 8-track studio I ran in Philadelphia in around 1980. In the early-mid 80's Steve's band the Flaming Caucasions and my band at the time, Memo Lender, played at the same clubs, mainly Dobbs and City Bites, so we continued to see each other and socialize every now and then. We pretty much lost touch after I got married in 1986 and had kids starting in the early 90's, but Steve did call me about 5 years ago out of the blue and we had a nice talk. It's really hard for me to digest that he passed away this week. He was a talented man with a good sense of humor and a lot of creative goals. The music business is a tough nut to crack and despite the success Steve did have I'm sorry even more people didn't get to hear Steve's very fine work.
Heartfelt sympathy to Steve's family, loved ones and friends.

It has been three weeks since Steve's passing, and I think of him everyday.  We shared so many memories, mostly very good times.  One of the last times I saw Steve, we took a walk around Parkesburg, talking about our lives, past and present.  Parkesburg is a small town, and we were able to walk around nearly all the streets. As we walked, the memories came back, all the music, the good times, and the friends we shared.  Steve rarely talked about religion, but he said one thing that day that surprised me.  He said he might be Jesus.  He wasn't being crazy, or foolish. He meant that he felt he sacriviced hisl life for others.  Steve did not sell his soul for riches.  He had a gift to give, music, and he gave this to others.   We also talked about the singer Amy Winehouse, how she was so talented, but was set on self destruction.  Steve was a complex man, a natural musical talent, who made every note seem so easy.  He never tried to be great, he simply was great. I wish Steve had reorded more of his music.  I wish others could hear what he created.  One of the last times I saw him, Steve played a beautiful song that he recorded.  I think the title was, "The Bells of Titusville."  The song was about his love for a young giil, a daughter of his girlfriend at the time.  Her mother had moved to Mexico, and had taken her away.  She was like a daughter for Steve. This was a beautiful song.  This was Steve at his best, his voice and guitar. The photo at the top of the page says it all.  "So long, folks."  So long, my friend.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Steve Wolfe, a fine musician and a super guy. I had the privilege of playing with Steve in The Flamin’ Caucasians from 1983 - 1987. He always brought out the best in himself and the musicians who played with him. From behind the drums, I enjoyed watching and listening to Steve perform. We spent many hours together and he was terrific company, both on and off the stage.  My condolences to Jan and Steve’s family.
