Barry Alan Messner, 71, of Honey Brook, died on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Coatesville VAMC Hospice Unit. Born in Chester Springs, he was the son of the late Harry and Eleanor McCoy Messner. 

Barry was a 1964 graduate of the Downingtown High School. He entered the US Army in 1966 and proudly served in Vietnam with the 196th Assault Support Helicopter Company which was stationed at Camp Lane, An-Son, S. Vietnam. 

He was employed locally as an exterminator and had a love for woodworking, music, car shows, and photography.

He is survived by five children; Pam McElroy and husband Troy of Honey Brook, Ginger Bottke and partner Jeff Jelinek of Cochranville, Barry A. Messner, Jr. and wife Colleen of Honey Brook, Kerri A. Messner of Honey Brook, and Megan Layton and husband Dwane of Honey Brook; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three siblings; Eva Molnar of Philadelphia, Steve Messner of Nashville, TN and Timothy Messner of Kennewick, WA. He was preceded in death by one grandson Collin F. McElroy and one brother Frank Messner.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA with visitation from 6 - 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Coatesville VAMC Hospice & Palliative Care Program, 1400 Black Horse Hill Rd., Coatesville, PA 19320.
